It's a joyous time for couples to be expecting a baby. But sometimes things don't go according to plan. Things can get messy when parents decide it's better to separate during pregnancy.

This is exactly what happened to a number of celebrity couples who decided to end their relationship right before their baby was born. Although it is a hard time for both mom and dad, the majority of these couples have managed to co-parent their children.

1. Khloe Kardashian and Tristan Thompson

Tristan Thompson and Khloe Kardashian may have ended their relationship in 2021, but it was announced recently that they are going to be parents for the second consecutive time. According to reports, Khloe Kardashian and Tristan tried to conceive with a surrogate before their split. The surrogate gave birth to Tristan in November 2021, just one month before the paternity scandal. The couple decided to continue with the pregnancy, and the baby is expected sometime in the summer.

"We are able to confirm that True will have a sibling, who was conceived in November. Khloe is extremely grateful to the surrogate for this beautiful blessing. "We'd like to request kindness and privacy so Khloe could focus on her family," a representative said in a statement.

Elon Musk and Grimes started dating in 2018. They had their first child, XAE A-12, two years later. The couple announced their split in 2021. However, they shared that they had conceived another child through surrogate in December that year. Exa Dark Siderael was born to them as a surprise. However, it turned out that they had been conceived via a surrogate before splitting up.

4. Vanessa Morgan & Michael Kopech

Vanessa Morgan, the "Riverdale” star, announced her pregnancy in 2020. Michael Kopech filed for separation a few months later. Although they did not comment on their divorce, Vanessa seemed to have gone through most of her pregnancy by herself. She was able to celebrate special milestones alone, such as when she posted the baby's sex on Instagram. Her rep confirmed that Michael was there when she gave birth to her baby in January.

Mary-Louise Parker had been dating Billy Crudup for more than six years before she and Crudup announced that they were expecting their first child. When Mary-Louise was seven weeks pregnant with their son Billy abandoned her for Claire Danes. Mary-Louise recounts her fragile emotions in "Dear Mr. You", her memoir. She also describes a solo taxi ride to the doctor.

"I am alone and pregnant. It hurts to breathe... I'm trying to get through this but it's hard. I can't get my feet on anymore. I realize that what I was going through was a part of my life, a small piece of a larger story that is most beautiful." she wrote.

9. Kelis & Nas

Kelis, who was married to Nas for 4 years, filed for divorce when she was 7 months pregnant with their first baby. She cited "irreconcilable differing" at the time. In 2009, she gave birth to Knight.

"I was married. It didn't work out. It was the best thing that ever happened. That is all I have to say. He will never see anywhere that I have said anything negative about his dad. It doesn't matter if it's true. Kelis said that he needed to know that he came from love at the end.

10. Denise Richards & Charlie Sheen

Denise Richards, six months pregnant with Charlie Sheen's second child, filed for divorce. Charlie was going through a drug- and alcohol-relapse, and Denise Richards says she knew it was the right time to end her marriage.

Things changed quickly when I became pregnant with Lola. It was very dark and toxic. Denise stated that she filed for divorce while six months pregnant with her.
