There is plenty of marital strife on RHOA, RHONJ and RHOBH
No matter where the ladies of "Real Housewives'" go, they will find drama. And their relationships are not an exception.
There have been many messy moments in the marriages of the characters, and unfortunately, most of them ended in divorce. The drama is always a hit when it happens in front of the camera. The explosive end to their relationships is sure to be a bit wild, no matter where the Housewives reside.
What happened to these couples on "Real Housewives?"
1. Kim Zolciak & Kroy Biermann
Kim Zolciak, who has been married to Kroy Biermann for 11 years, filed for divorce in May 2023. In her divorce filing, Kim Zolciak called their marriage "irretrievably shattered with no hope of a reconciliation." Kim and Kroy both filed for primary custody over their four minors, which will cause drama.
Their split news comes after a rumored financial crisis for the couple. In February, their country club mansion in Florida was put up for foreclosure. According to TMZ the former couple owes the IRS $1.1 million for taxes, penalties, and interest for the years 2013, 2017 and 2018. Georgia also owes them $15,000 for taxes in 2018. It is still unclear how their divorce will affect their financial situation.
2. Erika Jayne and Tom Girardi
Erika Jayne, after 20 years of marriage with Tom Girardi, filed for divorce. This was after a long legal battle over the alleged misconduct of Tom Girardi. Erika claimed that the couple's split was caused by alleged infidelity. However, lawsuits have been filed accusing the couple of "fraudulently protecting" their money through divorce and hiding their involvement in an embezzlement.
What's being said, well, it's just insane. Erika, on "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," said that the lawsuit that claims my divorce was a sham to hide assets is being viewed as a lie.
Since then, Tom has been the subject of numerous lawsuits. The drama was largely played out in "RHOBH" as other Housewives questioned Erika's claims about her husband. At one point, Erika claimed that Tom had suffered an accident in 2017, which changed his personality. Erika claimed innocence on the show despite the legal allegations and said that she was unaware that Tom had allegedly been withholding settlement funds from his clients.
Erika's name was dropped from the fraud suit, but she was sued for $25,000,000 for allegedly aiding in and abetting breach fiduciary duties as well as financial elder abuse. In early 2022 she was named as a defendant in a lawsuit for $2.1 million, alleging Erika had "aided and abetted" Tom's breach of fiduciary duties and that Erika has direct liability because she participated in and facilitate the conduct. Tom, who was reportedly suffering from Alzheimer's disease, was moved to a memory-care facility. He has been charged with fraud. Erika is unsure of what her future will be, but she doesn't seem to care.
3. Teresa & Joe Giudice
Teresa and Joe Giudice divorced in 2019 after 20 years of marriage. After a number of years of turmoil, the couple split after facing legal consequences for financial misconduct. The couple pleaded guilty, several years before they divorced, to 41 counts, including fraud by mail, wire, and bankruptcy. Joe admitted to not paying approximately $200,000 of taxes. Teresa later acknowledged that, despite her pleas, she didn't believe she had broken the law.
Joe spent three years in prison, while Teresa was only behind bars for 11 months. A court ordered Joe's deportation during that time because he never acquired American citizenship following his childhood immigration from Italy. Joe was released in 2019 from prison and transferred to ICE custody with the hope of appealing the deportation order. In October, he returned home after being denied. Teresa and Joe flew to Italy in December to see each other amid rumors they both had cheated.
4. Bethenny Frankel & Jason Hoppy
Bethenny and Jason Hoppy's separation in December 2012 was just the beginning of a major drama. Bethenny Frankel testified in court that, looking back at the situation, living with Jason was "like a torture chamber." She claimed that she was constantly afraid for her safety, and needed to install a padlock on her bedroom's door as protection. She also claimed that Jason would often lock her dog in rooms alone and try to convince Bryn to not spend time with Bethenny.
In July 2016, the couple finally reached a financial agreement, but their custody dispute for Bryn had lasted eight years. A co-parenting agreement was initially reached in their divorce, but that changed when Jason was arrested after allegedly threatening Bethenny on an unplanned school visit. Bethenny filed a lawsuit against Jason for full custody in 2019. The trial started a year after Jason was arrested. Bethenny accused Jason in court of verbal and emotional abuse and harassment. He denied the accusations. The trial continued until both parties reached a secret agreement.
5. Meghan King & Jim Edmonds
Meghan King and Jim Edmonds were in trouble when Jim Edmonds, a former professional baseball player, was accused of sending sexually explicit text messages to another female in 2019.
"We are still working on it, day by day. After such a breach in trust, I think it's hard to rebuild, especially with so many distractions like our sons' health issues and two other babies. It's hard to concentrate on us two as a couple," she told Bravo's The Daily Dish.
The couple, who initially stayed together, hit another bump later in the year when rumors spread that Jim was having an affair with the nanny. The couple filed for divorce despite Jim's denial of the accusations.
6. Camille Grammer-Meyer & Kelsey Grammer
The relationship between Camille Grammer Meyer and Kelsey Grammer went south when the actor began dating flight attendant Kayte. The affair took place during Camille's first season of the "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills", as she dealt with Kelsey seeing another woman in New York City while Kelsey performed on Broadway. Kelsey claims that Camille filed for divorce in 2010 on the same day as his mother's funeral.
Kelsey married his mistress, and Camille remarried. But the two have never made amends. Kelsey, as well as Camille, have repeatedly insulted each other in public. Camille called Kelsey "pathetic" in 2018 for talking negatively about him. Kelsey responded by calling Camille "pathetic" a year after. Camille claims that Kelsey hasn't spoken to her since 2020. This makes it difficult for them to co-parent their children.
7. Kenya Moore & Marc Daly
Kenya Moore and Marc Daly divorced in September 2019 after only two years of marriage. This was just days after Kenya Moore had professed her love for Marc Daly during an interview. But their relationship didn't end there. The couple briefly rekindled their romance in early 2020 but, after being quarantined separately during the pandemic they split up again. The couple announced in January 2021 that they attended mediation, but decided to go ahead with their divorce.
8. Ramona & Mario Singer
Ramona Singer and her husband Mario were allegedly involved in a marriage full of adultery. Ramona Singer allegedly caught Mario with his mistress in their Hamptons home before the couple divorced. People reported that the affair was well-known among friends of Ramona and Mario before Ramona discovered it. Ramona stayed by Mario's sides for nearly six months, but filed for divorce that July after saying that she had "given Mario many chances."
"I made my marriage work, because I am a person of strong values and believe that mistakes are inevitable. You reach a certain point when you realize that the other person doesn't put in as much work as you do. "I reached my breaking point," said the woman to People.
9. Gina & Matt Kirschenheiter
Gina Kirschenheiter, star of "Real Housewives of Orange County", filed for divorce in 2018 from her ex-husband Matt after she accused him of abuse over the years. Gina didn't accuse Matt of domestic abuse until a year later. Gina said that she "thought she was going to die" at times during the domestic battery case.
Stop. Remember the children. You replied by saying that your mother was going to die tonight. This echoes through my mind and sinks into my heart. It felt as if I was in someone's house that I had never met. Gina told him that your eyes were black and you weren't Matt.
Matt pleaded to guilty on one count of domestic violence with bodily injury to a spouse, and guilty of one felony charge of false imprisonment through threat, violence, fraud, or deceit. He was sentenced 180 days in county prison if he did not complete a series of conditions within a 178 day period.
10. Phaedra Parks & Apollo Nida
Apollo Nida, Phaedra's former husband, was arrested in January 2014 and charged with identity theft and bank fraud. He had previously spent time in prison between 2004 and 2009 for auto title scam. He pleaded guilty in May 2014 to charges of bank, wire and mail fraud. He was sentenced to 8 years in prison, and Phaedra divorced him a few months later. Phaedra decided to keep Apollo out of the spotlight during her divorce on "RHOA" for their children.
"I never intended to speak negatively about Apollo. Apollo is our children's dad. "I want them to have the freedom to form their own opinions on who he is," she said to People.
