It turns out that holiday music has been released by almost every musician!
Every year, new musicians try to recreate a Christmas classic. Some even attempt to write a new song. Some musicians seem to be able to work with the festive season (we're thinking of you, Mariah Carey), while others seem more mismatched.
Many musicians have released holiday songs that you would not expect over the years. Snoop Dogg and Weezer have created original songs, while others cover the same tunes that everyone loves. These songs are a huge hit with their most loyal fans but they don't make it into the mainstream.
Below, discover which musicians have dropped Christmas music.
1. Bad Religion - "Christmas Songs".
The punk group Bad Religion released a holiday album despite their nonconformist views and political and religious stance. This release features their unique take on Christmas songs. That means lots of guitars.
2. Weezer presents "Christmas With Weezer".
In 2008, Weezer released a Christmas album. It was originally recorded for Tap Tap's holiday version. This EP features six tracks that feature Weezer's spin on songs such as "Silent Night" or "We Wish You A Merry Christmas."
3. Barenaked Ladies: "Barenaked for Holidays"
In 2004, Barenaked Ladies released a holiday record. Seven original tracks were included in the 20-song album, as well as Christmas classics. A song was even included for Hanukkah celebrations!
4. Fall Out Boy's "Yule Shoot Your Eye Out!"
Fall Out Boy's Christmas original isn't exactly a cheerful Christmas song. It's about wishing your ex has a horrible holiday season.
5. "A Rosie Christmas" by Rosie O'Donnell
Rosie O'Donnell is not the only person that immediately comes to mind when thinking of Christmas albums. Rosie O'Donnell has actually released two holiday albums, featuring appearances by huge stars like Cher, Ricky Martin, and Barry Manilow.
6. Christopher Lee, "A Heavy Metal Christmas".
Christopher Lee, the late singer/songwriter of heavy metal, didn't start his career until he was in he 90s. He released two Christmas EPs. These unexpected releases added a heavy metal spin to classics like "Jingle Bells", and "Silent Night."
7. RuPaul's "Slay Belles".
Many people are familiar with RuPaul from RuPaul's Drag Race, but they might not know that he has released several Christmas albums, including this years' "Hey Sis! It's Christmas!" This EP contains five songs, including "Christmas Party," that will surely boost holiday spirits wherever you are.
8. Scott Weiland: "The Most Wonderful Time of the year"
Scott Weiland, a former Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver vocalist, released "The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year” in 2011. Instead of giving songs a hard rock edge, he channeled his inner Bing Crosby to create songs like "White Christmas", and "Silent Night."
9. Tyler, the Creator: "Music Inspired By Illumination and Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch"
Tyler, The Creator had contributed two songs to "Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch" soundtrack and decided to make an entire EP with all the tracks that didn’t make it onto the album. This largely instrumental album includes originals such as "Whoville" or "Lights On," and features Ryan Beatty, Santigold and others.
10. Snoop Dogg's Christmas in the Dogg House
Snoop Dogg put his own spin to holiday music with "Christmas in the Dogg House." It features tracks such as "Landy in my Egg Nogg," A Pimp's Christmas, and "My Little Mama Trippin on Xmas," all of which feature his famous friends, but they aren't family-friendly.
11. Afroman: "A Colt 45 Christmas".
Afroman's first Christmas album features him parodying classic songs, giving them an inappropriate twist. This album features songs such as "Deck my Balls", "O Chronic Tree," and "Violent Night".
12. "A Twisted Christmas" Twisted Sister
Twisted Sister released a Christmas album in 2006 that included classic Christmas songs. The album features a hair-metal take on "Oh Come All Ye Faithful" as well as "White Christmas."
13. The Ramones' "Merry Christmas (I don't want to fight tonight)"
The Ramones released their rendition of a Christmas song in 1989 as part their album "Brain Drain." "Merry Christmas, (I Don't Want To Fight Tonight)" became a popular alternative to the traditional Christmas song and was later featured in "Christmas With The Kranks."
