You don't have to see every holiday movie.
Although Christmas movies such as "Elf" or "The Santa Clause", are clearly meant to feed us sugary treats over the holidays, there are many other flicks that can't be classified as flicks for this season. These include cult-classics "Edward Scissorhands", and "Batman Returns."
For anyone who is looking for something different this Christmas, you can read on.
1. "Gremlins"
Although "Gremlins", may be about a rare creature with a dark side, it would be impossible to make the movie without Christmas! Billy Peltzer gets his strange pet for Christmas. He accidentally breaks one of the rules that he has to follow. Holiday-themed chaos ensues.
You can watch it on Amazon.
2. "Die Hard"
"Die Hard" is one of the most controversial holiday movies due to its Christmas Eve setting. However, it also features the death of many people. The story follows a New York police officer who visits his estranged wife in Los Angeles for the holidays. Things turn around when a gang European criminal takes her hostage at the holiday party. The flick ends with a family reunion.
FYI, Bruce Willis, the star of the movie, says it's and not a Christmas movie.
It's available on HBO Max.
3. "Batman Returns"
Although "Batman Returns", takes place during the Christmas season, it doesn’t necessarily have a Christmas storyline. It just features your usual "Batman” crime fighting and evil villains. Many fans claim that the film's Christmas background is sufficient to be classified as a holiday movie.
It's available on HBO Max.
4. "Edward Scissorhands"
Although "Edward Scissorhands", may not look like your average holiday movie, the whole story revolves around a grandmother explaining to her grandson why it snows every Christmas. The entire second half of "Edward Scissorhands" takes place during Christmas and features both a holiday party and a festive neighborhood.
You can watch it on Amazon.
5. Franchise for "Harry Potter"
Although the adventures of Harry Potter at Hogwarts are not your usual holiday movies, you can't deny that those wizards enjoyed some very magical Christmas celebrations. They're also included in Freeform holiday movie marathons.
6. "Lethal Weapon"
Joel Silver produced "Lethal Weapon" as well as "Die Hard", and he likes to set his movies at Christmastime. He wasn't only a fan of the series, but also wanted to make some financial gains.
Joel Silver, one of our producers, had made "Lethal Weapon" the year before and had decided that he wanted all his movies to be set at Christmas. We would then all receive residual checks and they would most likely be shown on TV every December," Steven de Souza, a writer for "Die Hard," told Dazed.
It's available on HBO Max.
7. "The Nightmare Before Christmas"
The Nightmare Before Christmas presents an interesting debate: Is it a Christmas movie or a Halloween film? Although the film does include a small amount of each holiday, most people prefer to believe that it is both. The movie can be viewed for three months straight.
It's available on Disney+.
8. "Eyes Wide Shut."
"Eyes Wide Shut", a psychological drama starring Tom Cruise, and Nicole Kidman, features cheating and a secret underground club of sex -- some argue that the Christmas backdrop makes it a holiday movie.

9. "Iron Man 3"
"Iron Man 3" sees Tony Stark caught in the middle of a identity crisis and taking on terrorist The Mandarin -- all set during Christmastime. Although it may not be considered a Christmas movie, Disney+ claims that it is. The film appears to show up when you type "Christmas" into your search engine. Shane Black, the director, has a mini obsession with Christmas. He'll be back further down the list.
It's available on Disney+.
10. "Catch Me If I Can"

"The Long Kiss Goodnight" is about a suburban mom who experiences flashbacks to her past life as a highly-trained government assassin. She soon realizes that she disappeared after suffering amnesia.
