Rachel Lee, the "ringleader" of the Bling Ring, is interviewed for the first in a new HBO film that explores her role in Hollywood's now infamous heist.
Bling Ring Leader Rachel Lee speaks out for the very first time after the string of Hollywood burglaries which landed her behind bars.
Bling Ring stole around $3 million from celebrities like Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton. They also took items and cash worth Audrina Patridge, Rachel Bilson, Orlando Bloom and Paris Hilton.
Lee, Nick Prugo Alexis Neiers Courtney Ames Diana Tamayo Johnny Ajar, Roy Lopez Jr. and others were arrested in connection with the crimes that took place between 2008 and 2009. Lee served 16 months for her involvement in the Hollywood heists.
This scandal, which was the inspiration for Sofia Coppola’s 2013 film The Bling Ring starring Emma Watson and played out on the reality series Pretty Wild became a media sensation.
Erin Lee Carr, in her new HBO documentary The Ringleader : The Case of the Bling Ring tells her story for the first time, admitting that she was one of the alleged ringleaders of the group.

She does not keep in contact with anyone from the Bling Ring
Lee says that she has rarely spoken to any members of the Bling Ring group, except for Alexis Neiers who was a fellow Bling Ring participant at the salon in which Lee worked after her release from prison.
"Alexis was at the salon and that's about it, other than Diana [Tamayo]. There are times we will briefly speak because we have a best friend in common, but no relation with anyone from the Blingring," Lee said to the Los Angeles Times on Friday.
Lee calls prison her "birth"
"I get very emotional when I talk or think about prison." It changed me physically and in every other way. The biggest thing that changed me was realizing how vain I was. It was interesting to not be able to see myself in prison because I could not look in a mirror. "Who am I?" I asked myself. "I felt empty on the inside," Lee, then 21 years old, said in a conversation with the outlet.
She went on to say, "I consider prison my birth. I had to start over, because I was without a moral compass or a foundation. There, I found out who I was. I want to be good. I want to be kind. I want to become a strong individual -- I am working towards that. I want to be a person of integrity."
Lee is one of two ringleaders at the top of the robbery group
"I only identified with it because that's how the media called me so long." "They almost convinced me that I was for a moment, but I then had to snap back to reality," Lee explained. "Everyone must take responsibility for their actions." I never forced anyone into anything. "I feel it was unfair," I said.
Lee initially denied that she was the only ringleader of the documentary. She eventually named Nick Prugo as her co-conspirator.
"For many people who were involved in Bling Ring, they felt it was a once-off thing. For me and Nick, it was a very repetitive experience. "I feel that if anyone was the ringleader it was me or him because I felt like we did it as much," she stated in the document. "He and I both were equally aggressive, and both equal as passive."
The relationship between Lee and Prugo was not black-and white. Lee explored the co-dependent nature before describing herself as a victim.
Lee said, "To tell the truth, I feel as if I am one of his victims. I feel like he... "I was the perfect person for him to dig his claws in."
The group grew, and suddenly, it was no longer just him and me. It became a liability. In the documentary, she continued, "It was very dangerous, and at that time, I really felt, 'This bad'."
The Paris Hilton Robbery is what landed her behind bars
Lee claims that items seemingly related to Paris Hilton were the cause of her arrest.
She recalled that the police were throwing the house around the entire time when they raided her father's Las Vegas home. The police found a torn up picture of Paris Hilton in my bathroom garbage can.
She also clarified rumors regarding her father's alleged involvement with the robberies. "I asked my Dad, 'If You Were Trying To Get Rid Of Stolen Property ...'. I just wanted to find out -- I enjoy knowing people's minds. I asked him: 'What would happen if you found a lot of stolen goods? What would you do? "I would bury the body in the middle desert," he replied. Nick then twisted this into, "Rachel’s father said to bury the body in the desert."
The doc also featured her father, who claimed that he was not involved in the robbery.
"I knew that she would be caught sooner or later." "I wanted her to end her relationship with these friends by moving her from Los Angeles back to Las Vegas," the man told the cameras. "I tried stopping her, but I didn't have the skills to convince or change her mind."
"My name [was brought into it] to create publicity," he continued. I had nothing to do with the concealment or the other matter, but I became the person that could be questioned about it. I gave up my business and disappeared. "I stayed in Korea three years."
Lee "gave" away many of the stolen items
"I never sold anything." Lee admitted that he had given away a lot before selling stolen goods with other Bling Ring Members in Venice Beach. "OK, I sold. "Yes, that was the time." Yes."
She said, "I actually came up with this idea." I thought, "What if [we] opened a carpet in Venice and offered everything for just $20?" We would tell them, "It's fake." It's real. It's real. "We sold everything in under 15 minutes."
