7 Celebrities Who Found Out About Their Splits From the Internet

I learned that THE INTERNET was not the best place to get married, but it was the right time for the rest of us.

It's never easy to end a relationship or marriage, especially if you are a celebrity who lives in the spotlight. Former couples who are famous often have their breakups make headlines even before they tell their family and friends -- or sometimes before they tell each other. Some stars claim that they found out about their divorce only when the news reported it. It's a bit shocking to find out about your divorce on the internet. However, it is a good sign that you should end things.

These stars have spoken out about their blindsides.

1. Jennie Garth

Jennie Garth married her husband Dave Abrams just one year after their first blind date. Jennie Garth says that they "rushed" their relationship ,, and Dave did not know how to deal "when things became challenging." Dave filed for divorce but didn't seem to tell Jennie. She claims to have learned about the divorce from TMZ, which inspired a storyline for BH90210.

Naya claims that Big Sean sent a publicist to issue a statement instead of ending the situation face-to-face.

"I learned from the internet that I wasn't getting married at the same time the rest of humanity. Naya , who wrote, said that we were no longer together and not only did we stop getting married but we also stopped being together.

3. Kris Humphries

Kris Humphries allegedly did not know that Kim Kardashian was divorcing Kris Humphries until the news hit. Kris Humphries said that he was "devastated," when he learned of the divorce. He wanted to work things out.

I love my wife, and am deeply hurt to hear that she has filed for divorce. I am committed to my marriage and all that it represents. "I'm willing do whatever it takes to get it to work", he said to TMZ in a press release.

4. Alice Evans

Alice Evans' relationship with her ex-husband Ioan was dramatic, and much of it aired online. Alice Evans sent a series heartbreaking tweets when news of the split became public and Ioan revealed his new girlfriend. Alice admitted in her posts that they had been experiencing marital issues for years and she thought Ioan was having an affair.

Alice explained that Ioan actually left in early 2021 but told their children it was possible the couple "wouldn’t get divorced." Alice claims that he filed for divorce just a few weeks after moving out.

He moved out of my house in January and I found out about his divorce only a few months later, when I read the news on a gossip site. I was a fool for believing him! Alice wrote: "I felt as if I were in a room without windows and could not breathe."

5. Drake Bell

Drake Bell's divorce from his estranged spouse Janet Von Schmeling was a complete surprise for the actor. Although they separated in 2022, their divorce came as a shock to him. Janet, a week after Drake had been reported missing for a short time, filed for divorce , in April 2023. She cited irreconcilable difference. Drake claimed that he was unaware of the news and took to social networking sites to deny it.

He wrote, "I learned that my wife had filed for divorce through TMZ," in a post now deleted on X.

6. Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin claims that she discovered her ex-husband Todd's plans to divorce her via an online email. She said that at the time the couple was in counseling, she learned Todd had hired a lawyer with the intention of separating.

She said this in an interview with Christian author James Dobson. It was devastating. I thought I was shot... "I don't think anything could be [more painful] than the death of a young child."

Todd filed the divorce papers in September of that year, just a few months after their 31st anniversary.

7. Debbie Matenopoulos

She says that she was not involved in the decision when Jay Faires, Debbie Matenopoulos’ music executive husband, filed for divorce following seven years of marriage. The television personality released a statement in which she said that she was "extremely sorry" to learn of the breakup of her marriage. She had learned about it from online reports.

"I do not support divorce, and I think that things can be worked out." You can imagine my sadness and disillusionment after I learned of my husband's divorcing proceedings online, just as you did," she stated in a statement.
