Actors Who Got Really Upset About Their Show's Cancellation

S.W.A.T. From Roseanne to The Big Bang Theory, here's what these stars had to say about being cancelled

The entertainment industry is a fast-paced one. From casting changes to completely canceled projects, everything can change within a blink of an eye.

Even though all actors are aware that the entertainment industry is unpredictable, it can be shocking when the plug is pulled on a project.

Some stars have admitted that they were totally surprised when their television or film show was shut down. They are understandably very upset.

What did these nine stars have to say about the cancellation of their show?

Actors Who Got Really Upset About Their Show's Cancellation

1. Shemar Moore

Shemar Moore, who has been starring in "S.W.A.T." for the past year, was surprised to learn that the show had been abruptly canceled. Shemar Moore says in a video that the cast did not know they were filming "S.W.A.T."'s final episode when they were working. He criticized CBS's decision and questioned why they axed the show when it was performing so well.

SWAT was canceled. It makes no sense. Read the articles. CBS's Friday night show at 8:00 is the best. "We have done a great job for the last two years," he said. "We have done nothing wrong. We've done everything asked. Let me be honest: we're diverse. Did you know that I am the only African American lead male on network television. "Not streaming, not cable. Network television."

Shemar feared he would be in trouble for posting that video. However, just three days after, the network reversed its decision. The final season of the show will consist of 13 episodes.

2. Sara Gilbert

The cast of "Roseanne", which had been on hiatus for 21 years, was thrilled when the show was rebooted. Roseanne Barr's controversial tweets and ABC's cancellation of the show changed everything. Sara Gilbert, the star of the series, called Roseanne Barr's comments "abhorrent", and said that they did not reflect the cast and crew.

Sara wrote: "This is an incredibly difficult and sad situation for us all, as we have created a show we are proud of and the audience loves, one that is independent of any opinions or words from one of our cast members."

The Conners, a spin-off of the original show, was picked up by the network.

3. John Goodman

John Goodman, Sara Gilbert's co-star in "Roseanne", was also affected by the cancellation of the show. He later shared that the news had made him feel as if he were suffocating. He said he struggled with accepting things for a whole month.

"I was trying to accept it consciously. "Okay, it's happening, breathe and accept it." I was trying to remain calm, but underneath I was trying to escape a plastic bag closing in on my face. "I remember that contradiction," said he to People later.

4. Mads Mikkelsen

Mads Mikkelsen was not happy when "Hannibal", a show starring Mads Mikkelsen, was abruptly cancelled in 2015. He claims he believed the show was going to get a fourth and final season. It caught the cast off guard.

We are all furious. We were enraged. It's madness. "Season four was the one that we were sure we would get," he said to the Sunday Express. "Seasons 2 and 3 were just about to be released." We did not know if 'Hannibal would be renewed. By the time we reached season four, we were convinced that it was for sure. We were surprised by the decision.

5. Mayim Bialik

The cast of "The Big Bang Theory", when it was announced the show would end after 12 seasons, seemed to accept this bittersweet news. They expressed their readiness to move forward. Mayim Bialik, however, didn't feel quite the same. She admitted that she was disappointed that the show would not continue and that it was difficult to leave a job.

"Am I satisfied? "Am I happy? Since Melissa Rauch and me joined the cast in season 4, this has been my role. I love my work. I love my castmates and I am so grateful for our incredible crew and brave writers. I also feel great appreciation for the entire staff and our amazing fans. "So many people are part of our ‘Big Bang’ family," she wrote in her personal website.

She added, "But I'm losing my job that you know and love. It is very sad." It's going be hard not to cry every day for the 23 episodes to come! As a cast we are committed to bringing happiness to our viewers. We will do this to the best our collective abilities."

6. Jennifer Love Hewitt

Jennifer Love Hewitt says that when "Ghost Whisperer," a show she had been watching for years, was cancelled in 2011, it was "a shock." She was sure the series would end eventually but thought there would be ONE more season to wrap things up. She was "bummed out" about her character Melinda, and felt that the series "didn't end in a way she deserved."

"I thought that our next season would probably be the last because the show has been running for so long," Jennifer said. Jennifer said that it's difficult to think of new ideas that will keep the audience interested, but she never imagined that season five would be their last. "When you have taken people on such a long journey, it's only fair to say goodbye." We didn't finish a show about unfinished business.

7. Nathan Fillion

Nathan Fillion said that he was shocked to learn of the cancellation of his show, "Firefly". After hearing the news, there were still three days of filming to be completed.

"We had to shoot for three days more after the cancellation and I remember thinking that this was going to be worst. Nathan said later that "every day will be a painful reminder about what we are losing, and it's going be one of saddest, worst three days of shooting."

Nathan said that the cast "turned out amazing."

8. Tom Ellis

The cancellation of the "Lucifer' show in 2018 shocked fans, who launched a massive social media campaign calling for its return. Not only were the viewers surprised, but also the cast. Tom Ellis, the star of the show, says that nobody expected it to be pulled off the air - especially since the season three finale was a major cliffhanger. He admits that he was "at his lowest ebb" when he first heard the news.

He said that at MCM Comic Con, "No one expected the cancellation. We were all like, Oh, they're going to love this. I wonder what will happen next season." It's strange that it took so long to get there. And it wasn't intended as the last moment of Lucifer. If it is, then it was a great way to end.

9. Katey Sagal

Katey Sagal was surprised when ABC canceled her show "Rebel" in 2021. Katey Sagal took to Instagram after the overwhelming support of fans to express her feelings about the ending of the show. She noted that "the plug had been pulled" as the cast was finding their feet.

I feel your pain and can hear your frustration. I stand with you wholeheartedly. "The abrupt announcement of no season 2, based on four broadcasts, was a shock. It also caused a lot of heartbreak," wrote she. Things take time to catch up. Rebel is a story about a woman who stands up for her beliefs. The show has heart, purpose, humor and tears. We, the cast are scratching our head at ABC's reversal.
