Aileen WUornos was a notorious American criminal and the first female serial killer profiled by FBI. This sex worker who was later a murderer confessed that she had killed seven men in a year. She claimed that she did it in self-defense. Wuornos was not found guilty by a jury and spent ten years on death row until she was executed in 2002. Aileen Wuornos was 14 years old when her family was in turmoil. She had an unplanned pregnancy. We now know more about Aileen Wuornos and her son, the serial killer.

Aileen Wuornos is one of the most famous female serial killers

Aileen Wuornos' childhood was difficult, it would be an understatement to say. Wuornos was born in Rochester, Michigan on February 29, 1956. Wuornos never saw her biological father. He was only 16 years old at the time Wuornos was born and was in prison for child molestation. In 1969, he died hanging himself.

Wuornos and her brother were four years old when their mother abandoned them and placed them in the care and custody of their maternal grandparents. Wuornos said her grandfather, an abusive alcoholic, beat Wuornos and allowed her friends to do the exact same. When she was 15 years old, Wuornos threw her out of her house and encouraged her to become a sex worker in order to support herself.

Wuornos began to commit criminal acts while living on the streets. Wuornos was arrested for armed robbery and forging checks as well as car theft and other offenses. Richard Charles Mallory was her first victim. She allegedly beat and raped him. He was shot several times and robbed before being left in the woods near where Wuornos' car was found abandoned by police.

Wuornos robbed and murdered six other men over the course of the following year. In January 1991, Wuornos was arrested on an outstanding warrant. She confessed to the seven murders over a tap phone line. Wuornos was tried for murdering Richard Charles Mallory in 1992. She was convicted and sentenced to the death. She was convicted of five more murders and sentenced to death, but she was not charged with the murder of one victim because his body wasn't found.

In 2002, Wuornos was executed in Florida. She spent a decade on death row and wiggled between claiming that the murders were self-defense and admitting that she was a cold-blooded murderer. Wuornos stated that she killed the men and robbed them cold-blooded in a hearing just months before her execution. It would be the same thing again. Because I would kill again, there is no way to keep me alive. My system is disgusting.

In 2003, Wuornos' story was turned into the crime-bio film Monster. CharlizeTheron won an Academy Award as Best Actress for her portrayal of the notorious serial killer.

What We Know About Her Son

Wuornos, then 14, was raped and became pregnant by one of her fathers' friends. Her son was born in a home for unwed mothers, which was a common practice back then. Wuornos was only 15 years old at the time.

The adoption was closed, meaning that Wuornos had no contact with the adoptive family. Any information regarding the identity of the serial killer’s biological child has been sealed. Depending on what arrangement was made, the son may not know that his mother was one the most notorious serial killers in the country.
