Three price points will be offered by the country's biggest movie theater chain.

A good seat at AMC will cost you more.

AMC has a new initiative called "Sightline at AMC" that allows moviegoers to pay based on their seat location in the theater. This pricing scheme is very similar to that for concerts. Variety reports that AMC patrons will be able to choose to pay more for seats in the middle of the auditorium while seats closer to it will be cheaper.

Sightline will launch Friday in New York, Chicago, and Kansas City. It will then expand to all other domestic locations by the end. Only showings after 4 pm will be eligible for the initiative.

Value Sightline is the first tier, and includes seats in the front row as well as ADA seating throughout auditorium. These seats are available at the lowest prices to those who have joined the free AMC Stubs rewards program.

Standard Sightline is a category above them that "seats most common in auditoriums" and can be purchased for the usual price of a ticket.

Preferred Sightline is another option. It includes seats in the middle and upper levels of the auditorium. This price will be higher than standard sightline tickets. Members who have paid for AMC Stubs A-List, which allows them to see three movies per week for $25 per month, will be eligible for Preferred seats at no extra cost.

The rollout won't affect the theater's $5 Discount Tuesday tickets. Tickets can be purchased online, via the AMC app and in person at the box office.

Variety received a statement from Eliot Hamlisch (executive VP at AMC Theatres and CMO), claiming that Sightline will "align AMC’s seat pricing approach with that of many other entertainment venues. Offering experienced-based pricing and another avenue for moviegoers looking for value at the cinemas,"

He said, "While every AMC seat delivers an incredible moviegoing experience," adding, "We know that some moviegoers prioritize their particular seat while others value moviegoing." AMC's Sightline accommodates both of these sentiments in order to ensure that guests are able to have greater control over their experience so that every visit to the AMC is memorable.
