Sarah Sherman destroys Colin Jost and Ego Nwodim brings back Lisa from Temecula, the season's most hilarious character.
Ana de Armas, a world-class actor, immersed herself in the crazy sketch on "Saturday Night Live" and showed a wide range of emotions and surprising depths as an actress.
Karol G, a musical guest, joined the Spanish sketch that you couldn't resist when she and de Armas were on the same show. Ego Nwodim brought back Lisa from Temecula, her most popular and funniest character in recent years. Sarah Sherman continued to abuse Colin Jost at the "Weekend Update Desk".
Alicia Witt Reflects On 'The Masked Singer" Opportunity Amid Personal Health Struggles And Tragedy
The show's new non-binary castmember, Molly Kearney, balanced sincerity and silliness in what is likely to be the biggest (and most controversial sketch of the evening) as they took aim very pointedly at Republicans who target trans kids' health care.
The night ended with the obligatory sketch praising Ana de Armas and a Cold Open which had nothing to do politics. This was refreshing. It wasn't the perfect comedy night, but there were more than enough strong sketches and some gut-busters.
Sarah's remarks to Colin still make us laugh.
We rank all sketches in order of worst to best, including Monologues, Cold Opens, "Weekend Updates" and any other sketches that had to be cut due time constraints but were posted online. We won't include musical guests because they aren't usually funny - unless Ashlee shows up. The final segment of the show will be a look back at the member of the cast who had the best week.

Hype Women
Devon struggles to carry a skit, even though his performance was better here than it was earlier in the season. It's not just that he lacks a distinct identity in these sketches. Kenan is producing in the room, while the people on the microphone completely miss their assignment. This has become a tired retread. We knew the outcome of the sketch the moment it was done the first time. There was no reason to continue. Devon's reaction to the comments was not funny, nor were the comments. This premise needs to be retired.
American Girl
This was a dark and funny parody that swapped the Barbie trailer for the American Girl dolls. Why settle for a Barbie Dream House, when you can live in cholera and despair instead? Because the American Dolls are based on actual historical eras, their stories are filled with tragedy. We would have loved to see a scene after the wagon ride, and we believe the audience did too, based on their delayed applause.
Nail Salon
This bonkers sketch, which was aptly placed in the 10-to-1 slot took a turn for the worse when Bowen Yang revealed at a nail salon his Guinness World Record-breaking longest fingernails. He was clearly enjoying the crazy performance. It was a clever revelation. Ana de Armas's performance was a good counterpoint. In a place so ridiculous, she was demonstrating the acting skills that won her an Oscar. The aside with Chloe Bennett seemed a bit odd, but overall the piece had a sweet sweetness.

Please Don't destroy: Hangxiety
The premise was fantastic and we were left wanting more. The boys' attempts to remember what happened and then show what actually happened was fun, but not as much as the general chaos that went on in the cast. Heidi Gardner, Bowen Yang, and Chloe Fineman stole the show in their brief scenes. Ana de Armas was funny in the flashback but didn't do much in the scenes of the present. The ending with Mikey day didn't work.
Monologue: Ana de Armas
Ana's short biography was so touching and sweet that we were moved to tears. The humor was minimal, but she made it funny with the perfect joke. She told us some sweet stories about her time in America and Robert De Niro's visit to her father in Cuba. She was charming, and you already know what we're going to say.
Spanish Class
Ana de Armas hosted the Spanish sketch, and Mikey Day made the perfect foil. Marcello Hernandez joined her as the two new students of a Spanish class. It was soon apparent that they were better than Spanish instructor Mikey, even on their worst day. He was hilariously awkward, as he is known to be. It was funny, even though we all knew what was going to happen. The satire is also a slap at American arrogance, with Mikey teaching a foreign language that he barely understands.
Becky G Alludes to fiancé Sebastian Lletget Scandal during Coachella Set
Dog Acting
Chloe Fineman, Ana de Armas and their dogs were having a great time with this latest sketch. The dogs refused to cooperate in any way. Dress rehearsal went better than this. We think the "Lady and the Tramp' bit was hilarious because it went so horribly wrong. These sketches are so random that we don't really know what to think of them. But we can't help but laugh.
Lisa from Temecula, Wedding
Lisa from Temecula returns triumphantly and this time, instead of cooking meat (though that did get a shout out), it was "toss My Salad!" The sketch had the exact same premise, set-up, payoff, and punchline, except for the visual change from steak to salad. All the same beats are there when they're shifted to a wedding location, with Bowen Yang unable to maintain his character and Ego Nwodim not breaking character. It was a faithful remake, so it wasn't as funny as the original -- one of our favorite sketches from recent memory. But it still made us laugh in some places.
Cold Start: First Warm Day
This is a classic New York opening, but it's also universal. This retread parody of recent "red-carpet" videos was a lot of laughs. Heidi Gardner and Bowen Yang interviewed the usual weirdos and freaks who show up in Central Park on the first warm day. This is a fun one. We won't spoil the characters or the way "LFNY" ended. We enjoy a break from protocol. It creates a playful, lighthearted atmosphere that we hoped would last through the evening.

The Dome
We're not certain if we've ever seen Mikey's Matt Schatt character take it this far. In previous sketches, Margot Robbie and J.Lo portrayed his wife. Kenan Thompson's performance as the host of a game show who couldn't figure it out was hilarious. He walked up to the cameras to apologize for having a stroke and the other teams started to buzz in with their guesses. Ana de Armas, Mikey Day and their relationship completely ruined this sketch. We laughed at the details of his job and body and how it took over the entire game.
Weekend Update
Colin Jost, Michael Che and others were very aggressive in their response to the leaked classified documents via Discord. Che went as far as saying that Atlanta is what Jost also calls Thug Shaker Central. In a strong opening segment, we got a montage where Trump talked about how many people cried around him. We also learned who had been stockpiling those abortion pills. The audience joined in with the boys.
Kenan Thompson did not create a new character for Funky Kong. He was simply doing what he does best, but with a little extra filth. It was one of the most raunchiest characters that we've seen in a long time on "Update", and Jost cracked up several times. It's pretty clear that he made up the Monkey Kong line based on Jost’s reaction. The piece was high-energy, and his alleged lines from the "Mario Bros." movie were pretty risque. Maybe we'll see a Director's Cut.
Late Late Show addresses One Direction reunion rumor for James Corden’s last episode
Che deserves a lot of credit for his sarcastic jab at California's alert system for Black Women and Children (while the one for White Women and Children is all the rage!). The segment included a hilarious dig at the New York Jets, as well as some salty jokes about the "Rat Czar" of New York and the NY Department of Sanitation.
Sarah Sherman may have been over-the-top as a health guru, yet she sure did deliver on the laughs. She ripped Jost even further apart than when she gives "Sarah News." Sarah's ruthless attack on Jost was the funniest segment of the show to date. She destroyed him even more than she does when she delivers "Sarah News." Sarah's ad lib insults and the line about his driver were particularly funny.
Molly's attack on states that seek to restrict or remove health care rights for children who identify as trans was direct and sincere. She shifted the focus from "trans" to "kids", thereby avoiding any confusion. It was a great combination of real commentary, and random silliness, about how they had trouble with the harness and their code words when they fell from the ceiling.

PLAYER OF WEEK
Here, a well-balanced show is the best choice. Sarah Sherman's outrageous attack on Colin Jost was the funniest part of the evening. We laughed out loud. Ego Nwodim returned one of our favorite characters, Lisa from Temecula. However, it was not as funny the second go around.
Bowen Yang always gets us laughing, and in this sketch he milked those funny fingernails. Mikey Day, on the other hand, was able milk awkwardness twice, as a Spanish teacher who was inept and also as Ana de Armas geeky husband, in a game show sketch. But they were only able to get us one time.
We were again drawn to the veteran cast member for the best overall night. Kenan Thompson had us in stitches as Funky Kong. He was also the perfect producer for lunch and he made us laugh as the game show host attempting to figure out Ana & Mikey's relationship.
"Saturday Night Live," with Pete Davidson as host and Lil Uzi vert as musical guest, returns on May 6.
