Black FedEx Driver Arrests White Father and Son for Shooting at Black FedEx Driver -- He Claims His Bosses Directed Him To Continue

Black FedEx Driver Arrests White Father and Son for Shooting at Black FedEx Driver -- He Claims His Bosses Directed Him To Continue

They were only charged with shooting at a vehicle and conspiracy. His lawyer would like them to be charged with attempted murder as well as hate crimes.

Black FedEx workers claim that he was chased down, shot at and told to keep working the same route the next day.

D'Monterrio Gibson was 24, making deliveries in Brookhaven (Mississippi) on January 24 when two white men chased him onto the highway, and set fire to him.

Father and son Gregory Case (58) and Brandon Case (35), were arrested later and charged with shooting into a motor car and conspiracy. Their lawyer demanded they be charged with attempted murder as well as hate crimes.

Gibson said to AP that he dropped off a package at 7:45 PM and was turning his van around when he saw a white pickup truck pull into another driveway. Gibson was wearing his FedEx uniform; Gibson's van was a Hertz rental, but had a logo magnet.

He claimed that the truck zoomed past him and tried to prevent him from exiting. He swerved around the truck, but he was confronted by a second man with a gun standing in the street, asking him to stop.

Gibson stated, "I drive down two to three houses and there is another guy standing in middle of the street with a gun pointed towards my vehicle."

"I look at him like I'm shaking my head because why would he stop for someone with a gun?"

Gibson attempted to leave but was stopped by the man who opened fire on him, hitting the van with his gun and ripping through the contents.

He continued to speed, only for the pickup truck to follow him. He claimed that the truck followed him until he reached Brookhaven's interstate highway.

Gibson claimed that he called police to report that they had received a call regarding a suspicious individual at the address. This was presumably him.

"I replied, "Sir. I'm not suspicious." I am a FedEx worker. Gibson said that Gibson was simply doing his job when they fired at him.

Gibson claimed that Gibson told his managers about the incident and they advised him to return to the same route on the next day.

Gibson stated that the police had to file a report on the next day. "They put me back on this same route as before," Gibson told WJTV.

"I did that for a few days until I began having really bad anxiety attacks and couldn't continue doing it anymore. They offered me some time off. I have it, but it isn't paid."

Gibson's lawyers seemed to be as furious at the lack of empathy by the company as the lack of charges.

Rodney Diggs, a lawyer, stated that FedEx should be notified.

"It's remarkable that, after Mr. Gibson complained to multiple supervisors, they did not show any concern. They wanted Mr. Gibson complete his route. After nearly losing his life, he was determined to complete his route. There are bullet fragments in both the truck and the car.

Diggs said that the situation was similar to the Ahmaud Archery case in which another unarmed Black man was pursued by a father and son of white, but who didn't escape with his life. He called it "racism at the highest height."

The company released a statement saying that FedEx takes such situations very seriously and was shocked by the criminal act committed against D'Monterrio Gibson, a team member. We are committed to the safety and well-being of all our team members. As we work with the investigating authorities, we will continue to support Mr. Gibson."

Gibson's lawyers also attacked police and prosecutors, claiming that the suspects were "undercharged" while the investigators weren't taking the case seriously.

Carlos Moore, a fellow attorney, stated that "this man is fully, gainfully employed at FedEx, and yet you haul off to try and chase him and cut off and shoot him multiple time and kill him." It's disgusting to see someone so hateful, racist, and full of malice because of the skin color of this man.

Thursday's statement was added by Hemingway: "We have asked federal agencies, the FBI and the Department of Justice, to immediately start an investigation. We believe that the crimes were hate crime and racially motivated. We asked them to investigate the case and bring charges if necessary.

According to The Daily Leader Moore stated that the District Attorney presented evidence to the grand jury. They will decide if additional charges are warranted.

Brookhaven Police Chief Kenny Collins, who is Black, rebuffed claims that the city was racist on social media and warned anyone making inflamatory posts.

He stated that he was not open to outsiders trying to stir things up. "Brookhaven does not have a racist or prejudiced population. Two individuals can't make a town.

He said that people need to be cautious about what they post on social networks. You will also be charged if someone is hurt or killed by what you post to social media.

Moore also announced Friday that FedEx had agreed to pay Gibson, who has been on unpaid leave since then -- his back pay.
