After the grisly discovery that a 12-year old girl's body was in a box outside her Parisian apartment, a 24-year-old woman was taken into police custody.

Her parents reported her missing after Lola, the victim, didn't return to school on Friday afternoon. The father of the girl, who is a custodian in the building where they live, helped to identify the suspect by looking at security footage from the building. It showed the victim in a hallway with an unknown woman.

The same woman, carrying two bags, was seen walking out of the building two hours later. Le Monde reports that the woman, later identified as Dahbia B, a 24-year old Algerian national, was seen leaving the building around two hours later, carrying two bags.

Lola's body was found by a homeless man living in her apartment building's courtyard in a plastic container hidden under sheets. Her throat had been slit, and she was stabbed. According to Le Monde, her autopsy reported that she died from "cardio-respiratory failure with signs and symptoms of asphyxiation" and cervical compression.

After images from security footage and descriptions of witnesses circulated online, the homeless suspect was captured.

Prosecutors described it as a "rambling interview". Dahbia B claimed that she lured the girl into her sister's apartment, forced her to shower, and then sexually assaulted and killed her. The young girl was raped and murdered by Dahbia B. So far, no motive has been found.

Earlier today, the French President Emmanuel Macron met the victims' parents. He issued an official statement saying that he had "offered his condolences" and that he would support them in their ordeal.

Three other people, including the sister of the woman were also taken into custody and placed in police custody. Two of them were released later without charge.
