Strong stated that he was not going to endorse Ben because he had the same job when he was a teenager.
Ben Savage's "Boy Meets World", co-stars are voicing their opinions on his congressional campaign.
The hosts of "Pod Meets World", Danielle Fishel and Rider Strong, broke their silence about Savage's recent foray into politics. They also discussed whether they would endorse their former castmate in his bid for Congress.
Fishel explained that they've been "tagged in things", and were asked questions about his campaign. Before Friedle asked Friedle, Fishel said that they were considering what to say. "Will you please tell us about Ben Savage's run for Congress?"
Friedle stated, "I will tell you what I said whenever anybody asks me to speak publicly about politics. Which is that I don't speak publicly about politics." It's the way I was raised. You don't talk politics, you don’t talk sex, and you don’t talk how much money you have. Since I was 18, I do all my talking in front of the voters. That is the answer to my question.
Strong acknowledged that he understood why Savage would want to hear from the public, but the actor at 43 claimed that it was unfair to place such pressure solely on the basis of their past work together as teens.
He said, "It puts undue pressure upon us to a degree, and it's understandable... but the truth is, because it was me who worked with someone when I was 13 to 20, it's fascinating that we have to comment on it."
Although the "Cabin Fever” star acknowledged that he and Savage did not agree on many issues in their youth, he also admitted that Savage may have had different ideals.
"When we were younger Ben and I didn't really agree politically. Strong explained that we often found ourselves on opposite sides of nearly every issue. "Now, it is important to mention that we were teenagers, and it was 1993-2000, so perhaps a lot has changed."
His plans for now are to wait and see if Savage's beliefs align before he offers his support. Strong stated that he is not going to endorse Ben because he had the same job when he was a teenager.
Fishel was adamant that she did not vote because she lives in another district.
She said, "It is important to determine our individual priorities... then you search for the things that are most important to you and then try to find a leader who aligns with those values as closely as you can and then support that person."
Savage declared last month that he would be running for the California 30th District seat as a Democrat in the upcoming election.
In a post on Instagram, he said that he was running for Congress to restore faith in government and offer reasonable, innovative, compassionate solutions to the country's most pressing problems.
