The bride acknowledges the importance of men in her life and says that "I'm not sure I would be where I am today without my friendship with my school resource officer"
Media attention has been drawn to a bride from Washington who decided to walk down her aisle with 15 men she described as "father figures".
Ivy Jurgensen (28), , opened up to , Good Morning America, about her decision to let these 15 men give it to her. She credits them all with helping her reach that point in her life.
Jurgensen said, "They have played a huge role in my life. They've protected and provided for me without asking them to." It was a very special moment for me when I honored them, and everyone could see who they were to me.
Her brother, uncle, brother-in law, and close family friends were among the men who walked her to the altar. A school resource officer also inspired Jurgensen, who was suffering from alleged domestic abuse at the time, to open up and trust law enforcement.
Jurgensen said, "I began to trust my school resources officer. I saw that he was a man of great heart who loved his work and cared deeply about the students at his school and in the community that he served." The friendship I developed with my school resource officers was crucial in helping me escape and seek justice.
GMA has seen court documents that show Jurgensen’s father received a prison sentence after being convicted a decade earlier of child molestation.
Jurgensen shared that it was because of this officer that she decided to become a school resource officers as an adult.
She said, "I don't believe I would be where I am today without them." It was a very special moment and I am very grateful that I shared it with them.
"I hope people will take strength from my story. "I hope that people gain the courage to receive and get help they deserve, and no longer feel voiceless", she said about her video becoming viral. She says it was not something she expected. You are not alone, and you deserve to be heard. "Saving yourself could save other victims unknown."
Jurgensen plans to publish a book on her journey, how she learned to listen to herself and to help others with the same assistance she received.
She concluded, "Trauma doesn't define you. You can still overcome it. Use your trauma to help others escape their trauma and be free of their trauma so they can move on." "My trauma doesn't define me. "It shaped me."
