Carson Daly Details Having First Panic Attack at TRL: 'I Thought I Was Going to Die'

Carson, speaking at the Project Healthy Minds inaugural gala on World Mental Health Day, said: "I felt a snap of my brain out of nowhere.

Carson Dalyrecalls the first panic attack he ever had.

TODAY.com reports that the co-host of TODAY, who was also the host of the gala, opened up on his experience with generalized anxiety disorder. He revealed he had his first panic attacks while hosting Total Demand Live.

Carson, 50, said, "I thought I would die one September day." "I was in the dressing room, and I could feel the usual live buzz before the show started. I could hear people outside. "I could hear the horns honking. It was normal total request chaos. Very usual."

He continued, "Then I experienced something that was very strange." "I felt a snapping in my head in my dressing-room.

Carson said, "Fear went through me, my heart began to race and I felt someone crack one of those cold compressions at a Little League match and place it on my neck."

He said, "I saw my producer in the doorway talking to me, with a normal expression, and he was probably saying something about Hanson." I couldn't hear the man. It was as if he were talking in slow-motion. I was literally leaving the reality. I thought I was having a stroke right in front of Hanson. It was only 30 seconds long, but felt like it lasted 30 minutes.

He said that he was able to "get through it" and "did the program on autopilot." He admitted, however, that "below the surface, I felt absolutely terrified that what had just happened could happen at any time."

Carson claimed that he went to the doctor who performed "a battery" of tests and informed him he had suffered from a panic disorder. He was shocked because he thought he was physically ill.

Carson said, "I have never even heard of panic attacks. What was the cause of this panic? ... I don't understand. It turned out that the panic attack was just a symptom. The cause was stress and anxiety. I had to slow down. "I needed to manage my life, which was unmanageable.

The Voice said that he continues to have panic attacks.

Carson explained that "if you've never experienced an intense fight or flight response, the urge literally to drop everything and run is like an out of body experience." "We call this derealization. Sometimes I even see myself above. ... It was not a good way to live.

Carson said that this was "the most important step I took in my mental journey" when he opened up about his struggles to a close friend. The radio host sought treatment for anxiety as a result. He began to see a therapist, who taught him how to manage his anxiety through medication, breathing exercises, and meditation.

"That doesn’t mean I won't have another panic attack." "The body can always fool the mind," Carson said, now helping other people who have panic attacks.

Mental health is not the Scarlet A anymore. It's the bright red "S" on our chest. "We're superheroes," said he. "We are the avengers in a galaxy. We're jocks and misfits. All with their own issues, we come together to help the people, and maybe even save the planet."
