Charlie Cox Says Disney+ Daredevil 'Probably Won't Be As Gory' as Netflix Series

"Can we appeal to a slightly older audience without losing the lessons we have learned about what works?"

The epic, often-brutal and bloody fight scenes on Netflix's "Daredevil," series was a hit. Fans were concerned that a more gritty and family-friendly version of Charlie Cox, series star, would soon be appearing on his own Disney+ show, Daredevil: Reborn.

Cox's Man Without Fear, Cox's character in "Spider-Man: No Way Home", and "She-Hulk" were the latest series news. The latter featured him sharing a one-night stand (with the title character) Cox's "She-Hulk” appearances were lighter and more humorous than those of the original series. However, he said in an interview with NME that he thinks the new show will be somewhere in between.

"This must be a reincarnation. It has to be different. Otherwise, why are we doing this?" He told the publication. "I believe this character is most effective when he's targeted at a slightly older audience. I think it will be darker on Disney+, but not as gory.

He said, "I would tell those people, that we've done this." Let's not forget the good things, but let's expand. Are we able to appeal to a younger audience while still retaining the lessons we have learned about what works?

Cox also revealed that he met Kevin Feige at Marvel Studios two years ago and asked him if he would like to be a part of the MCU-proper. The actor said that he was "over the moon" when Feige told him about the Spider-Man role and the "She-Hulk", gig. He added that "after that, we aren't sure." We'll see."

The "We'll See" episode turned into an 18-episode Disney+ season, the most episodes ever given to a Marvel series. Cox stated that he was told that he would be filming through almost all 2023, beginning in February and ending December.

NME spoke with him that he was "fascinated to learn why they chose to do 18". "I imagine there will be an element that's like the old-school procedural. It won't necessarily be case-of the-week. But it will allow us to get into Matt Murdock, the lawyer, and see his daily life. If he does it right, and gets down to work in that world,... It's quite fascinating to be able to live a superhero's daily life, and really enjoy the moments when he gets dressed up.

He told the outlet that he hopes that the show and future MCU appearances will keep his busy for many years. However, he added that "but if this show next season doesn't hit it the spot, then that might just be it."

The series, which will also feature Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin in the show's final season, will premiere in Spring 2024.
