Elijah Wood said goodbye to the verification badge that was previously free. It will now cost $8 per month.
Twitter has removed blue "legacy verified" checkmarks on the profiles of users who do not want to pay for the new monthly subscription fee. It's safe say that Hollywood stars have their own opinions.
The social media platform, which Elon Musk purchased last fall, announced on Wednesday that it will be removing the verification badge that was previously free for thousandsof its users. It also noted that those who wish to retain their blue checkmark must subscribe to Twitter Blue which costs $8 a month.
Many celebrities took to Twitter the next day to express their disappointment at losing their checkmarks. Some celebrities, like Chrissy Teigen or Halle Berry, shared humorous tweets regarding the new Twitter policy. However Alyssa Miolo was extremely upset about it.
Teigen is a well-known Twitter queen. She didn't appear to be upset that she wasn't verified anymore on the bird app. Instead, she retweeted a meme showing a cute animal with a Darth Vader mask, also known as the "darth seal" of approval. Teigen added "the only thing that counts" to the tweet.
Berry posted another hilarious meme. The photo featured a cartoon character weeping while staring at a screenshot of her Twitter account -- , complete withher checkmark in blue.
Quinta Brunson, star of "Abbot Elementary", tweeted: "This is a great thing for me, because I had planned to never use this website again after tonight." "Just wanted to stay and give Abbott updates:)"
"Bye the way, thanks to all of our fans for watching and sharing this season. She added: "I will still be like this tomorrow." Sharing the iconic image of Nicole Kidman cheering, she shared.
The singer Ciara responded to the loss of her badge by writing "Blue check or not check... I know that my fans check in," while Elijah Wood tweeted "So long verified status."
Milano also expressed her frustration at having to pay a fee for the badge. She tweeted, "So, by revoking a blue check mark, because I would not pay an arbitrary fee, anyone can be me and just say 'a bunch of bulls ---. Does this mean Twitter and @elonmusk can be sued for defamation, identity theft or fraud?
The bio of her Twitter account also contains the words "NOT PAYING TO GET A BLUE CHECK MARK!"
TMZ reports that while it appears that celebrities like Taylor Swift, The Weekend, and Khloe Khoury are not paying for the blue checkmark monthly fee, others do.
Musk, however, revealed on Twitter that he "paid for a few badges" "personally." Musk has not revealed how many badges he considers "a few" and which figures he purchased, with the exception of Stephen King.
My Twitter account shows that I have subscribed to Twitter Blue. I haven't. My Twitter account shows that I have given a number. Musk responded, "You are welcome, namaste."
Below are some tweets that show how celebrities react to the loss of their Twitter badges.
