"The Wicked Witch has left."
Clayton Echard, "The Bachelor" made history Monday night by becoming the first Bachelor ever to receive a rose.
The Bachelor's latest episode continued from the previous episode. After Clayton learned the "unsettling" news that Cassidy Timbrooks apparently has a friends-with-benefits who is waiting for her at home, he asked host Jesse Palmer if anyone has ever retracted a rose.
"What I'm hearing is that Cassidy essentially has a friends-with-benefits that she apparently was FaceTiming right before the limo entrance," Clayton, 28, said to Jesse. He said that Cassidy had already been given a rose and that this was a frustrating part.
Jesse replied, "Listen Clayton, there aren't any rules." You can do anything you want."
Clayton decided to sit down and confront Cassidy about the situation. She asked her if she was seeing anyone up to the point when she arrived on the show.
Cassidy, who seemed confused by his question, replied "No, I haven’t -- absolutely not." This is not the direction I was expecting. She continued, "I have not had any relationship since the summer 2019."
Clayton asked Clayton another question and wanted Cassidy clarify that she wasn't speaking to "any guy she has an interest in" prior to joining the show. She replied confidently, "Clayton," she said, "Clayton, for very long I have not spoken with a guy that I have any interest to be in a relationship."
Clayton said that he was informed by her FaceTime of the guy "days prior to [she] stepping out in the limousine."
Cassidy was compelled to tell the truth. Clayton was told by Cassidy that she had a friend who doesn't want a relationship. She also said that her male friend supports her appearance on the show but that he would still like to be "friends" even if things don't go her way. Cassidy stated that she was not interested in continuing that relationship, as I knew it wasn’t going anywhere.
Clayton abruptly got up, and he walked off. Cassidy followed Clayton, and then he walked away.
The two sat down again shortly after. Cassidy continued to admit, but she also tried to save the situation by expressing her love for Clayton.
Clayton was told by Cassidy that he slept with one man a few times in the last few months and that he knows I'm there. "But since the moment I met you, all that I have done is gush over how I'm already falling in love with you. It's a real shame that this has caused any confusion or prevented you from doing what you wanted. I hope it doesn't ruin the relationship we've already started."
Clayton acknowledged that he and Cassidy had "a genuine connection", but he stated that he is "struggling with [their] trust being shaken." Clayton stated that his biggest fear when he first came to the show was "falling in love with someone who wasn't there for the right reasons" and that he has "too many worries."
"Are they sending me home?" Cassidy began to cry and asked. "I don’t know of anyone in the house that glows so much as you do. You are the only one who is as excited about you as I am. It would be a shame to send someone home who has a real connection with you, and who actually likes you, for the opinion of a few girls, who will likely be gone in a few months. I haven’t even packed my stuff."
Through sobs, she continued: "I didn’t think I was going to home tonight."
As the other contestants and viewers saw Clayton's decision, Clayton was seen walking Cassidy down the stairs and out of the room.
Although viewers weren't able to see Clayton take Cassidy's rose away, the episode did show the moment Clayton took Cassidy to her limo where she continued to fall apart.
Clayton continued to think about his decision in confessional.
"This is not at ALL what I expected to do tonight." It hurts," he said, adding that it was. Then I asked her if she FaceTiming anyone in the lead up to this. It was true, she admitted it."
"Being dishonest is not a sign of love. Love is being able trust others and sharing your heart.
Clayton's fellow contestants weren't upset by her exit. One of them even deadpanned, "The Wicked Witch has gone!"
"The Bachelor" airs Mondays, 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
