"The bear... It f---ing did cocaine!"
The first trailer for "Cocaine Bear", a film about a bear who is high on cocaine, is out.
Elizabeth Banks directs the movie. Universal reports that it is inspired by the 1985 true story about a drug runner who crashes his plane and misses cocaine. However, it clearly takes more liberties than usual with the facts.
The film is described as dark comedy and "finds an oddball bunch of cops and criminals, tourists, and teens converging on a Georgia forest where an 500-pound apex predator, has ingested staggering amounts of cocaine and gone to war for more blow... and blood."
In real life, a 175-pound, black bear who had found cocaine in the woods died from an overdose in the 1980s. Andrew Thornton, a drug smuggler, dropped the cocaine from his plane. He died in September while parachuting with the drugs. According to the New York Times, the body of the bear was found months later in "among 40 open plastic containers with traces cocaine."
After a stint with Waylon Jings, the bear's stuffed body is now at Kentucky Fun Mall.
Keri Russell, O'Shea Jackson Jr. Christian Convery-Jennings Alden Ehrenreich and Jesse Tyler Ferguson star in "Cocaine Bear".
It will be in theaters on February 24,
