Sydney Powell, the daughter of the murderer, was found guilty last week.

On Wednesday, a jury in Summit County Ohio convicted a 23-year old former college student for the 2020 murder.

Powell, a native of Akron, was charged with murder, felonious assailant, and tampering evidence. She was found guilty of all three charges in connection with her mother Brenda Powell's murder.

In a press statement, the prosecutor's said that Powell stabbed Brenda Powell nearly 30 times on the neck in March 2020.

Powell was 19 years old when her mother died.

According to the Akron Beacon Journal, the former Mount Union University Student wept as the verdicts were being read.

The prosecution claimed Powell didn't want her mother to know she was kicked out of school.

Authorities claim that Brenda died in a local hospital because her daughter had attacked her. CourtTV reports that she was a child-life specialist at Akron Children's Hospital in Akron for almost three decades.

Powell's defence had used three experts to diagnose her with schizophrenia. The prosecution's expert in clinical psychology, Dr. Silvia o'Bradovich testified that the best information to determine a person's sanity is the words and feelings expressed at the time.

Court TV reported that O'Bradovich stated, "It didn't add to Schizophrenia."

The Akron Beacon Journal reported that Assistant Prosecutor Brian Stano described the attack in court. "Sydney had stopped attacking with the skillet, and presumably, went into the kitchen to get a knife," said Stano. "She had no choice but to keep attacking."

"Just the knife in the neck, multiple times?" He continued, "That is deliberate." "That's trying to kill someone."

Powell's sentencing will take place on October 28. It is not known if Powell will be sentenced to prison or a facility for mental health.
