The victim's family claims that security cameras caught the 12-year-old victim's son screaming, "Daddy, daddy daddy", as he was brutally beaten by five attackers who were trying to fight the victim's teen son in front of their three children.
According to reports, a Maryland father of three was killed while protecting his family during a fight which began at the school of one of his children after he refused five attackers to attack his son at home.
Christopher Michael Wright, 43, was involved in an ongoing dispute with another teenager at Brooklyn Park Middle School in Anne Arundel County. The family then reported the incident to local media.
Tracy Karopchinsky said that three teenagers and two adults had arrived at the family home of Mr. Wright to look for their son, who was 14 years old, but they found his father waiting outside.
Tracy, WBAL-TV 11, said: "Chris went out to let them know that he wasn't coming here to fight. They threatened to get him at one point, but then they told her, 'If Chris doesn't fight, you will fight'."
CBS News reported that his fiancee stated that all three of Mr. Wright’s children were at home when the fatal beating occurred.
He died on Saturday from a traumatic head injury after being transported to Shock Trauma.
"Just by looking at the damage done to him, it's not just punching. There's no way punching could have done that. Before the ambulance took him away, the damage had already been done. I mean, he'd had a seizure. It was already done. Tracy told WBAL TV 11.
The victim's family said that the brutal beating was recorded on their surveillance cameras, and their neighbor had also captured footage.
"I was in Shock Trauma and my dad and myself tried to look at the camera. The first video I saw was my 12-year old son screaming, "Daddy, daddy daddy," and running from the house to the street to help his father." Tracy said. After that, I just couldn't. "I just couldn't."
Brooklyn Park Middle School officials have confirmed that the incident occurred at their school. They are also participating in the police investigations.
The local media reported that the investigation in Anne Arundel County is ongoing.
According to WBAL-TV 11's Marc Limansky, a police spokesperson, "Anyone who helped who abetted or who was an accomplice of either the main suspect or primary suspect will also be guilty."
Kristin Karopchinsky, the sister-in law of the victim, said: "I'll always remember the sound and the noise that my nephews made as we told them he had died."
They didn't ruin just our lives. Their lives will be forever changed. Tracy, the fiancee of the victim, stated that their parents' lives will be forever changed. "Nobody thinks about this just because there was a fight," she said. It's everywhere. And somewhere, as parents, we are failing our children. It's not a school responsibility. "It's our responsibility."
Tracy described her partner as a wonderful man who enjoyed gardening and stargazing. She described her husband as her best friend. In his honor, a candlelit vigil is being held.
The police urge anyone who has information about this incident to contact them at 410-222-4731 (Tip Line) or 410-222-4700.
