Original post
Here's a brief backstory. We have a good friend whose daughter (let's call her "A") has osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer. The friend told me that "A" only had about three months to live. I offer to move things around and bring food over. I bring my daughter along to keep "A" company. The two hit it off immediately. "They talked for hours, and I brought my daughter back the next day."
"Now, about my daughter. She is sweet and sassy. Last year, she had been bullied a great deal. Self-harm and a trip to the psychiatric ward were the result. She's doing better, but I still worry. She is a lover who doesn't play around. She is also a person who jumps into new relationships with both feet. She is a woman who loves fully and deeply."
This is where concern comes into play. 'A' got cancer during covid. Since then, she hasn't been to school. She has also lost all of her friends. The LAST thing I would want to do was take away the only friend of a child who is dying. I will not do it but I'm worried. On the way home, I explained to my daughter what was going on. She understood, but being the incredible person that she is, set up additional play dates for her, gave her a favorite stuffed animal, and is working on a picture for her. She is one of the most amazing people I know."
I feel stupid worrying about my child when my friend will lose hers in a few months. Anyone else dealt with a similar situation? "Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated."
An update
Just wanted to clarify some things. "Just wanted to clarify some things."
"I wouldn't try to keep them apart, or discourage this friendship. I can't think of anything more generous to do for another person. "I am worried about how this friendship will end."
"Also, I'm a dad."
"Be kind! The world is filled with bullshite and assholes. Hug the people you love. You never know how long they will be with you. "Thank you again."
After receiving thousands of likes and hundreds of comments, he added: "Jesus you guys. You guys are so kind. I've officially lost track of how many comments made me cry. You are all beautiful, caring, and wonderful people. After her friend's death, I will show this to my daughter. Your kind words are sure to touch her heart as they did mine. Thank you guys so much."
