Decoding Taylor Swift's Speak Now Album: All The Famous Boys

Decoding Taylor Swift's Speak Now Album: All The Famous Boys

The conversation about which former lover each song was about has been re-ignited since Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) became available on streaming.

English Literature majors and internet detectives are all invited to join the hunt. Majors, Swifties, and Swifties everywhere -- it's finally time to decode Taylor Swift Speak now.

Taylor released a new version of Speak Now in 2023. This is more than a decade after it was first released by now-defunct stores.

Taylor Swift's Version of Speak Now includes controversial lyrics changes -- how fans are reacting

Swift is re-recording her six first albums and rereleasing them in an attempt to regain control over the master recordings after a messy sale of those masters.

Swifties love to decode the lyrics of her songs. These new recordings have reignited her fan base, which is already very passionate.

If we're being honest, most of the detective work involves figuring out which past boyfriends of Taylor's were responsible for which song.

The songwriter announced the re-release on social media of Speak Now (Taylor’s Version): "I made Speak Now between the ages 18 and 20. It was completely self-written."

The songs I wrote during this period were marked by brutal honesty, diaristic confessions unfiltered and wild wistfulness. This album is great because it's about growing up and flailing and flying and crashing, and then living to tell the tale.

Taylor is known for her penchant to write elegantly but vaguely about herself, her feelings and her process. This can be seen in the social media note she posted. Her songwriting is also influenced by her love for allusions, opaque metaphors and soap opera stories.

Her fans are captivated by the mystery and unnamed boys.

There are plenty of obvious clues.

"Praying for John [Mayer ].""

The following are some of the ways to get in touch with me

Fans have long believed that the lead single from Speak now is about late Glee star Cory Monteith.

Taylor has not confirmed this rumor. Taylor has spoken more about her experience in the song, which was more about a possible relationship.

Taylor said to Rolling Stone that it was "about a boy I liked a certain period of time." Taylor continued to explain that she was speculating on "what would happen if I let down my guard."

Taylor said the same thing about the song when she spoke with Yahoo Music. "I saw the whole relationship flash in front of my eyes almost like an odd science fiction movie."

"After I composed the song, everything fell apart as it often does. I hadn't spoken to him for a few months. The song was released, and I received an email from him that same day. And I said, "Yes!" "Because that was a sort of half confession and half prediction or projection of what I seen."

Sparks Fly

Liner notes are available for this album.

Many believe that the album notes contain a secret message: "Portland OR."

Swift archeologists have unearthed a Myspace post dating back to October 2006. In it, Taylor recalled a night in a Portland pub, Duke's, where she performed. She opened for Jake Owen, a country singer.

Jake was the focus of the Myspace post. Swifties also note that Sparks Fly mentions falling for love in an empty bar.

Back to December

All signs point towards Twilight taking place in December.

Taylor Lautner thinks the song is about himself... but no one believes that he is so vain to think it.

After costarring in Valentine's Day they had a short romance, but split in December 2009.

Lautner became a trend setter in May, when he said to TODAY he felt "safe", with the upcoming release of Speak Now and that it was a great album.

What made him viral was his statement that he "Prayed for John [Mayer]".

The song has "really embarrassed" Mayer, as he said in the past.

Speak Now

Taylor says that this one isn't about her.

The singer revealed to Yahoo! that "one of my friends... the guy she was in love with from childhood, married this other girl." Music in 2010.

"My first instinct was to ask, 'Are you going to speak now? Then I thought about what I'd do if someone I loved was marrying someone they shouldn’t have married. So I wrote a song that explains my exact game plan."

Dear John

Name drops, age gaps and break up letters.

Here are many allusions, and clues. Everyone seems to agree that this song is about her affair with John Mayer.

The lyrics refer to the age difference of Swift and Mayer (Swift, at 19 years old, dated Mayer when he was 31 years old).

Taylor had previously spoken about how "tough it was" to write the song, but she revealed during a June show on her Eras Tour before performing Hello John that "I'm 33." I don't give a damn about what happened when I was 19.

Taylor continued, "I don't put this album out to make you feel like you have to defend me online against someone who you think might be the one you believe I wrote a song for 14 billion years ago back when I was 19. "I do not care. "We are all good." "We are all good.

Mayer said that the song "really embarrassed" him.

You can also say:

Mean is a term that has been used to refer to Bob Lefsetz who referred her as "young and stupid" following her Grammys 2010 performance.

Taylor admitted to 60 Minutes that "the things said about me by the dude floored and leveled" her.

"I'm not a tough person." I hate reading criticisms. "You never get over hurting things."

She performed Mean on the 2012 Grammys.

The Story of Us

Taylor confirmed that Dear John, and The Story of Us both refer to the same person. If the internet is right, then John Mayer was the inspiration.

She told USA Today that "The Story of Us" is about running into a person I was in a relationship before at an awards ceremony. We were sitting a few rows apart. "I wanted to ask him: 'Is it killing you? It's killing me. But I didn't. But I couldn't. We both had silent shields on."

Many people think that the song is about CMT Awards in 2010. Once again, the liner notes give away a hint with "CMT Awards."

Never Grow Up

Never Grow Up is about how I don't know what I think about growing up. Swift wrote, "It's tricky" on her Genius website.

Growing up is something that happens to you without your knowledge. Growing up can be a strange concept, because you often wish that you were older when you are younger. Every night, I look into the crowd and see many girls my age going through similar things to me. Sometimes I look down at a girl of 7 or 8 and wish I could share all this with her. She is forming her opinions, thoughts, and dreams. "I wrote this song for these little girls."

"That was a word that this person used in an email, so I wrote it into the song so he'd know."

Enchanted

Taylor told Yahoo! that she wrote the song in her hotel room after returning from New York. It was a positive and wistful sentiment of "I hope you know how much I enjoyed meeting you." Taylor tells a story about meeting a guy in NYC. "I purposely used the word wonderstruck [in the lyrics] because it was a word that that person had used in an email. So I wrote it in the track, so that he would be aware."

The liner notes include the words "ADAM".

Adam Young, the Owl City singer wrote in 2011 a blog where he stated: "I am so honored that Taylor would compose such an elegant song. It is a gracious nod towards me." It's not necessary to say that I was utterly in awe and lost for words. "I couldn't stop laughing."

It's Better Than Revenge

Taylor changed the lyrics of this song when she re-recorded it.

The fans noticed the changes in "Better Than Revenge", 13 years after its original release.

The song "She's a actress, but better known for what she does in the bed" hasn't aged well.

The line is now "She was an actress, He was a moth at the flame and she was holding matches." The song was allegedly inspired by a real-life person, Joe Jonas’ next girlfriend after Swift. Camilla Belle. Swift has never confirmed or denied any real-life influences, but this new line certainly resonates with many supporters.

Swift has insisted for years that women shouldn't be judged based on who and how they date. Swift's powerful stance made this line more problematic, because many interpreted it to be "slut-shaming" and that is against everything Swift represents.

Innocent

Innocent is a response to Kanye interrupting the speech of Alicia Keys at 2009 VMAs.

She told NYMag.com, "I think many people expected me write a song on [West]." "But for me, I felt it was important to dedicate a song to [West]."

"It's not going to do me any good if I begin to blame myself for things and complain about them." She said, "I'm proud of my performance at the VMAs in 2013, where my fans helped get me through it." "There was so much that happened backstage for which I am forever grateful, and my fans in the metro know exactly what took place that night." I feel everything. I've never felt this thick skin. "I'm not bulletproof by any means."

"I don't mind if you have tattoos. I don't mind if you have a space between your teeth. "I love you just the way you are."

Haunted

Taylor wrote in a blog post, according to Genius, that the song is "about the moment you realize your love for someone is drifting away and fading quickly." You don't really know what to say, but time seems to move so slowly in the phase where love is fading. "Everything depends on the last text message, and you realize that he is falling out of loves."

It's heartbreaking to experience that, and you try to convince yourself that it isn't happening. After going through it, I woke up in the night and wrote this song.

The song was written originally for the New Moon Soundtrack, which starred Lautner.

Last Kiss

This is some more detective work.

Taylor told Ellen DeGeneres once that she wrote her song Forever and Always after her breakup with Joe Jonas.

In the liner notes for the track The Last Kiss, the words "forever and forever" are included.

Do the math.

Long Live

Taylor wrote about her song long live in a blog post, according to Genius.

This song is about the triumphant moments we've experienced in the past two years. "Long Live" is how I feel when I reflect on it. This song is for me like looking through a photo album with all the award shows and stadium shows and the hands raised in the crowd. It's the first song I wrote to my team.

Thesis

Taylor said once on VH1’s Stories that Ourswas about a guy "nobody thought [she] would be with."

She continued, "So I composed this song just for him to hear, to show him that I don't give a damn what people say." "I don’t care if you have tattoos. I don't mind if you have a space between your teeth. I love you just the way you are. This song was actually recorded on a [ Speak now] record and became a No. 1 song."

I turned to a friend and said, "It's just like watching Superman fly off."

Superman

This one is a tough one to guess.

According to the singer, it was just a casual comment she made once about a man she "enamored with".

Taylor said that the title of this song came from something I randomly said in conversation, according to Taste of Country. "[When] [he] left the room, I said to one of my close friends, 'It was like watching Superman flee away.'
