Denzel Washington Reflects On Chadwick Boseman’s Health while Working on Final Project

Denzel Washington Reflects On Chadwick Boseman’s Health while Working on Final Project

"I was wondering if there was something wrong with him because he looked tired or weak sometimes."

Denzel Washington recalls working with Chadwick on the final project of the actor.

Washington revealed to Variety Magazine that he noticed Boseman's decline during production of "Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom", the Oscar-winning 2020 film.

After a secret battle against stage IV colon cancer, "Black Panther" star died on August 28, 2020. Boseman, who had been privately fighting the disease for four years, succumbed at the age of 43.

"A man among men. He suffered quietly. He made the movie and no one knew. Washington said, "I didn't know." He never spoke a word about it. He did his job."

The Oscar Award winner said, "I wondered if there was something wrong with him because he seemed tired or weak sometimes." "We didn't know and it wasn't our business. He kept it to himself, which is a good thing.

Denzel made a statement to CNN about Boseman's death, describing the actor as a "gentle spirit" when the news broke.

The 65-year old actor and producer said, "He was a gentle spirit and a brilliant artist. His iconic performances over his short but illustrious career will remain with us forever." "God bless Chadwick Boleman."

While "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom", may have been the first collaboration between the actors, Boseman revealed in June 2019 that Washington had secretly paid for his acting classes following being admitted to Oxford University's acting program.

He said, "As fate would have effected, I was one the students that he bought for," while presenting Washington the American Film Institute's Lifetime Achievement Award.

Imagine receiving a letter stating that your tuition was paid and that your benefactor is none other than Denzel Washington. "...There's no Black Panther without Denzel Washington."

Boseman also shared an amusing exchange with Hollywood veteran, "It's a fun conversation." He said, "You owe money!" "I came to collect!" Boseman was able to recall the incident at that time. It was so deep that I couldn't even get into it right now. We talked about what has been happening and what is about to happen.
