Donald Sutherland's acting career has been outstanding. He's starred in memorable movies like The Dirty Dozen (1967), M*A*S*H (70), Don't Look Now(73), Ordinary People (1980) and The Hunger Games franchise (2012)-2015. Many of his fans are now asking about his health and how he plans to spend his golden years.

Sutherland seems to be doing well and is determined to stay professionally active. He is not only alive but, according to all indications, he's still going strong. He is determined to limit his work hours. Biography states that Sutherland stated, "I'm going be working until they're helping me with the shovel." However, his remarkable career has lasted more than six decades, and he shows no signs of slowing down.

Donald Sutherland, despite a sickly childhood, remains active well into his 80s

Born in Saint John, New Brunswick on July 17, 1935. Sutherland was diagnosed with rheumatic fever, which made him miss fourth grade. Hepatitis and poliomyelitis also plagued him. Due to the pain he experienced from polio, Sutherland's first word was "neck". According to some reports, one of his legs became shorter due to the illness.

He is still acting as of 2022. He lives in Santa Monica with Francine Racette, a French-Canadian actress.

He has not shown any signs of retirement so far

Sutherland's pace has been steady, with five films completed in 2019. Alone (2020), and Mr. Harrigan's phone (2022). He also appears in several TV series including The Undoing (2020), and Swimming With Sharks (222). His next projects include Miranda’s Victim, and a voice-acting role in Ozi Voice of the Forest.

He continues to be recognized for his talents

Sutherland received an honorary Academy Award in 2017 as well as Companion of Canada's Order of Canada (CC), in 2019.

He was almost dead in his 30s but he seems remarkable healthy in later life

Sutherland was not only at risk from childhood illnesses. Sutherland contracted spinal meningitis while he was filming Kelly's Heroesin 1970 Yugoslavia. For him, it was a close call between life and death.

He said that he got sick during filming. "I was in Yugoslavia to film a day and then I was sick for six weeks. I was diagnosed with spinal meningitis and was taken to the hospital. I was not given antibiotics, so they put me in a coma. They told me that I died after only a few seconds. I saw the blue tunnel and began to go down it. I saw the white light. I sank my toes in, it was tempting but I wasn't ready to leave.

He underwent seven spinal taps. "People would walk into the very white room where I was being bedded in Novi Sad and look at me, then start to cry. It wasn't encouraging. "I was in poor health."

Sutherland was taken to an English hospital to recuperate. He was soon back in Yugoslavia filming a month and a quarter later. His ordeal had left him feeling shaken and unable to function normally. He said, "I could talk and walk but my brain was really fried."

Donald Sutherland is certainly not a quitter. Since his youth, he has fought through every setback. Sutherland is a versatile actor that is difficult to categorize. His strength is not fitting into any one mold. Sutherland, a man who has embraced his imperfections in an industry that values traditional looks, has often self-deprecatingly called himself "an ugly guy." His roles have been part of cinematic legend and he isn't done.
