Don’t Get Scammed By Fake Wordle Apps

Wordle is taking over the world. Wordle, a simple wordplay game for free that was created in the fall, has already taken over social media accounts across the country. You have probably seen it in yours. You can bet there will be fraudsters and counterfeiters out to con people out of their money when something becomes so popular.

What is a Wordle?

Wordle is a wordplay game that you can play if you don't already know the story. It was created by a Brooklyn-based software engineer in October. Josh Wardle (see the play-on words for the wordplay games? The game was created by Wardle as a fun activity with his partner. His simple guessing game was never meant to become anything more than it is. It has evolved into so much more.

Simple concept: Six players are given six chances at guessing a five-letter word. The player is given six chances to guess a five-letter word. That's it. It's very simple but addictive. Each morning, a new word is added to the site. Players have made it part their morning routine, much like brushing their teeth and drinking a cup of tea.

Viral Sensation and the Scammers that Followed

Wardle spoke earlier this month to the New York Times, saying that he first shared the game with friends and family. In November, there were 90 players, most of them friends, who were already playing. The number of players had risen to 300,000. Wardle has not provided any updates lately. However, it is safe to say that the number of people playing has increased exponentially over the past 10 days. It's almost safe to assume that millions are currently using Wardle's site. It is totally free to play and you can only get the original game from its website.

Wardle hasn't made it clear that monetizing the game would be possible. Many people are actually trying. Quickly searching for "wordle" in the Apple App Store brings up many similar games. Some are in the games category and others are in the education category. However, none of these games is the original one Josh Wardle created. While some are expensive to buy, others have the ubiquitous "in-app purchases", but almost all of them can be monetized in one way or another.

Do not fall for it!

There are two things you should know if you want to avoid being duped. There is no app, at least not yet. If you aren't playing on the website, it's not the right game. There are several apps that have a similar name but are different games. They were created long before this craze became popular. These are not scams. However, they are not the same game. It's likely that the developer is not Josh Wardle.

It is rare to find something like this. Something that isn't out there trying to make money, and just meant for people to have joy for the sakes of joy. Don't allow the vultures to win by playing their cheap knockoffs.
