"We were the perfect little, cute item for the three month we lasted." It was cute.
Drew Barrymore and Corey Feldman had a lovely reunion on "The Drew Barrymore Show" this week. It was their first time seeing each other in over 25 years.
The couple, who were briefly in love as teenagers, reflected on their relationship on Wednesday's episode on Barrymore's talk show. They also talked about their first date, when they were just "literally children."
"I am so glad to be able to meet you. You are too sweet. It's been 25 years since we last saw each other. Barrymore, 47, asked Feldman (51), "How long it been?". Feldman replied that it had been 25 years. Barrymore, 47, asked Feldman, 51, if it's been 25 years. He replied that it was. She said it incredulously.
The "E.T." star and actor then reminisced on the past. The "E.T." star and actor from the "Goonies," then reflected on the past.
Barrymore stated, "We partied, but we didn't party," Feldman joked, adding, "We got sober together. We got un-sober together ..."
Feldman said that they were "literally children" and met when Feldman was around "12-13", while Barrymore was "10-11."
Barrymore recalled their first date, and the actor revealed that it was organized by Steven Spielberg, who directed "E.T."
"What happened was that I got a phone call one day. My grandmother said, 'We received a call from Steven’s office and the little girl E.T. But everyone did!" But everyone did!"
She said, "I loved the idea you had and I loved you both as an actor/human." "But, getting to know you, that was what I was always attracted to was your lack ego. There were many nice people around us, but many who succumbed to self-indulgence. You weren't one of them."
Feldman continued the story about their first date by noting that Barrymore’s mother Jaid set up a "cute little date" for them.
He recalled, "Ofcourse, neither one of us drove, because I was still living with my grandparents, and you were living alongside your mom." It was adorable. "I remember taking you to see the movies. I can remember which movie theatre it was."
"We walked along the street and you held my hand as I held your hand. "And I held your hand and we walked along the street," he continued. Barrymore blushed at the thought.
Feldman said, "I don’t remember which movie we saw."
According to the actor of "Gremlins", he said that he was friends with "Charlies Angels" but it wasn't until many years later that they actually dated.
"We were the perfect little, cute item for the three month we lasted." Feldman stated that it was cute.
They took a look back to 1989, when they were both present at the Oscars. Barrymore and Feldman were respectively 17 and 14 years old at the time.
Barrymore stated, "I remembered you were going, so, I was fortunate enough to be your date." "And I just threw it on, straight off the rack, a Betsey Johnson cotton dress. It cost me $65, I don't think.
She continued, "I can remember getting there and seeing people wearing such designer clothes." "And I recall looking around and thinking, Oh, I'm so underdressed. I am wearing a Betsey Johnson cotton dress. Whoops!'"
Before Barrymore and Feldman called the shot "legendary," the talk show host said that Feldman "looked cool".
They continued to cherish their friendship and romance.
Barrymore said, "We were so positive; I and you were such good friends." "We had the kind of relationship that says, 'Date your best friend.' That was what we were. I was so grateful for your kindness. You were a safe haven."
Feldman, who like Barrymore has been open about his past struggles using drugs and alcohol, then said, "You were already getting you life together and I was, although I was safer than most Hollywood people at the time but I was still having my problems." You got sober first, and you had your act together first. It took me a few more years to do the same.
Barrymore responded, saying, "Well, it's fun to un-get it together, then get it together... work in progress."
After the interview, they hugged and expressed gratitude for their reunion.
Barrymore was told by Feldman that he could call him at any time. Barrymore replied, "Ditto."
Feldman also posted earlier this week about his visit to "The Drew Barrymore show". Neben photos of his appearance, Feldman spoke out about his "amazing emotional reconnection" with Barrymore.
