Drew Barrymore Talks Dating and Menopause Taboo: 'I Don't Want You to Think I'm Some Dusty, Old, Dry Thing'

Drew Barrymore Talks Dating and Menopause Taboo: 'I Don't Want You to Think I'm Some Dusty, Old, Dry Thing'

Barrymore stated, "You're just that old bag when it comes to menopause." "And that's the conversation, that stigma that needs to change."

Drew Barrymore isn't shy about sharing difficult truths. But this time, she's revealing that she is nervous about something she wants to share with her partners.

Oprah Winfrey spoke with Maria Shriver, Dr. Heather Hirsch and Dr. Judith Joseph on OprahDaily.com. The actress also discussed how perimenopause impacts her relationship life.

"There's something about that stigma that makes me feel like a dusty old, dry thing. Barrymore acknowledged that this is not the image Barrymore wants.

Johns Hopkins Medicine defines perimenopause as the "transitional period around menopause."

Barrymore said, "I feel confident, normal, and I want be who and how I present myself," "But I thought in that moment, "I have to tell this tale because it was a real-life experience of, and I'm so proud be here. I am an open book. In that moment, however, I felt like I didn't want anyone to know what it was because I was engaging in a conversation with someone who I wanted to see in a certain way.

Barrymore was shocked to learn that the concept of menopause needed a rebranding.

Barrymore clarified, "If Mark Zuckerberg could rebrand Facebook as Meta, maybe this can be done for menopause." We have the term men-o-pause. A natural stop... for a lover who finds something repellent about the subject. This subject is taboo with no one else.

Barrymore, 48, said that menopause is a dry topic. That is the stigma that needs to be changed. It must be more fun, sexier and safer. The 'aha' moment is the safest.

Barrymore has shared her experiences with perimenopause before. Barrymore spoke with Jennifer Aniston, Adam Sandler and other guests on "The Drew Barrymore Show" about her first hot flash.

"I am so hot. She revealed that she thinks she's experiencing one of her first perimenopause hot flashes.

Aniston laughed, "Oh! I feel so honored!"

Barrymore exclaimed, "I'm so happy I have this moment recorded."
