Elliot Page opens up about his struggle with his identity and his family's struggles with acceptance.

The Los Angeles Times released details and excerpts of "Pageboy" this week along with a profile of the actor. The book details his struggles with his queerness throughout his childhood, his teen years and how his parents reacted when he came out as trans.

Elliot, who came out in 2014 as gay, said in his book his mother, a daughter of a minister, told him once that homosexuality was "non-existent." His grandmother also asked his father, he said, what he would do if Elliot were a "dyke," after shaved his head as a teenager for a part.

Page told The Times that after he became "at ease" in himself, his mother finally accepted him.

He said that her change and her new role as an ally and advocate is inspiring. She also expressed guilt towards her son about her old beliefs. He said that it took her some time to get rid of the beliefs she was raised with.

He's not had the same luck with his father, with whom he claims he hasn’t spoken in over five and a half years, and is unlikely to do so again.

"When [right wing author] Jordan Peterson returned to Twitter after making a horrible tweet about me, Jordan posted a video with just his head in the frame. He said threateningly, "We'll see who cancels whom." My dad 'liked' it,'" Page claimed.

Peterson was banned from Twitter in 2022 for a post where he called Page's surgeon a criminal physician, misgendered Elliot, and wished for the old days when "pride" was considered a sin. In 2022, Peterson was banned from Twitter for a tweet in which he longed for the days when "pride was a sin," misgendered Elliot and called the doctor who performed top surgery on Page as a "criminal physician."

Page wrote in his book that the tension between him and father is due to his dad's support of "those who have massive platforms and have attacked and ridiculed [him] on a worldwide scale."

Pageboy is released tomorrow.
