Are you familiar with Candis and Andy Meredith? The couple, a married couple with seven kids, are home renovators and authors. They began flipping houses in 2013 and were nearly forced to leave the show earlier this year after clients complained about their Homework. Surprisingly, the Emmy was won by the couple for their show which was pulled after just two episodes.

In 2019, the Merediths were able to land a show on Magnolia Network. This network is owned by Chip Gaines and Joanna Gaines. The home renovation program Home Work followed Andy and Candis through their homes in Utah. The Merediths also renovated their home for nine-member family members.

After just two episodes, Home Work was removed from the network's programming. A few of the previous clients had complaints about the couple after the show's debut. Many of the clients on the show weren't happy with their home renovations, as it turned out.

Who are Andy and Candis Meredith, you ask?

Let's meet Andy and Candis before we hear from their clients. They were married in 2013 and began renovating their homes together. The couple lives in Utah with seven of their children. After having three children together from previous marriages, they had a daughter together.

Through their Instagram and Facebook accounts, the Merediths have become well-known socially. Since years, the couple has posted photos and videos about their home renovations. Andy and Candis landed a limited series of HGTV's Old Homes Love in 2015 because of their social media presence. They were also nominated in 2016 for the Shorty Award for their web series "Win This House".

In 2019, Chip Gaines and Joanna Gaines started their own television network, Magnolia Network. People reports that the Merediths started discussing the possibility of Magnolia having a television show in the same year. The series filmed Andy and Candis renovating their homes in Utah as well as the schoolhouse of 20,000 feet that they were turning into a home for their large families. The show eventually became Home Work.

Social media almost took it all away

Aubry Bennion was a client of the show and shared an 18-part Instagram story that detailed all her grievances with the Merediths. Bennion was not content with the work of the couple, from flooding her home and over-budgeting to renovations that took place well beyond the agreed timeline.

Teisha Hawley shared an eight-part Instagram post in which she criticized the Merediths a day later. Bennion also had similar grievances. Soon after, Vienna Goates and Robert Goates, whose home had also been renovated by the Merediths, posted their story on Instagram. They were also asked to pay almost twice what reality TV stars had quoted for the renovations. (The Instagram posts by Robert Goates and Vienna have been deleted.

How "Home Work" went from being cancelled to winning an award

The controversy started on January 5, 2022. Magnolia quickly reinstated the program on January 12, 2022, despite the network pulling the show from its premiere week. The network's president Allison Page stated that Magnolia Network was dedicated to sharing genuine and hopeful stories. After speaking with homeowners, Candis Meredith, Andy Meredith, and listening to a variety of positive and negative stories about renovations for Homework, we don't believe there was any malicious intent.

"While Home Work will be returning to Magnolia Network, it is important that we acknowledge the responsibility to take action on how to better support our talent and those who trust us.

Homework had returned to Magnolia by the end of January. The reality couple, however, remained silent on social media shortly after the claims from their former clients. The couple did respond in videos to the complaints of their clients, but their social media accounts remained silent for many months.

The couple had to wait for two Emmy nominations in June before they could post again on social media. They haven't posted anything to Instagram since July, despite winning an Emmy for Homework. They may not be as keen to use a platform that nearly took them down like the social media stars before.
