Fairuza Balk Now: Here’s What The Actress Is Up To In 2023

Fairuza Balk was a popular commodity in the 1990s. She brought her goth-punk style to films of all genres. Then, she vanished from the limelight.

This was an unusual move by a child star who had already successfully transitioned into adult roles. The Craft star had valid reasons to step away from the spotlight. She's remained committed to many creative pursuits, even though she has largely walked away from magazine interviews and red carpets.

Fairuza Balk is now living a low-key lifestyle. Find out what she is up to.

She was tired of the 'Strange Bubble' Hollywood.

Balk did not lose her talent. She told Dread Central in 2013 that she was selective about her roles.

She said, "I want to keep interested. I don't want to just work for the sake" "There must be something for me to grow from this experience. I have never taken a job just to get the paycheck. I took the job because it was something I really wanted.

She also took a step back for her own sanity. She told the Los Angeles Times in 2020 that she was tired of being presented for an audience.

She said that she had resigned from doing press in my 20s because people kept taking my words and changing them and portraying me as a crazy, bad girl. It just got too much. They didn't listen to me, but they had taken sound bites from other interviews and misquoted me. So I just felt like 'OK, I can't win. '"

The actress spoke about Hollywood's pressures and how she wasn't able to fit in.

"Also Hollywood is a very odd bubble, a very bizarre world and some of those things--as a general public is beginning to discover--are elements of that game I just can't do. I was not raised that way and my brain isn't wired accordingly. For my own self-preservation and well-being, I had to take a step back."

Is she still acting?

Balk is still passionate about acting and has been in a few of the most recent films.

She starred in Prime Video's Paradise City in 2021. Her last TV appearance was on Showtime's Ray Donavan in 2015. She was also a guest star in 2020's the Craft: Legacy, which is the sequel to the film that launched her mainstream career.

Balk, despite appearing in the sequel to The Craft said that she hadn't seen it yet and didn't intend on seeing it. Balk claimed she stopped looking at her work many years ago. She is still passionate about acting, however.

She told the LA Times, "Well acting, hopefully I'll be in a position to do for the remainder of my life." That was our goal.

Balk also added one caveat. "I love the actual work, but it isn't for everyone. Let's be honest."

What is Fairuza Balk doing today?

Balk is often busy with other creative endeavors when she's not performing. Balk creates fine art and works in ink. Her art prints are also available on her website.

Balk shared her thoughts with the LA Times, "I started looking into other art forms and I'm much happier for it." Balk also mentioned that she is currently interested in metalsmithing, which she learned from her multi-talented father.

She also records music under the name Armed Love Militia. She announced in May 2021 that all her ALM tracks would be available on streaming services. Balk plans to record additional songs and she hopes to have her dad be a collaborator in some of the new work.

"I have always looked back at my career with the question: What will I think when I look back? Is this a project that I will be glad I did? She asked, "Is it going to communicate anything?" You have to be okay with yourself and the work you do enough to release the things you've done to the world.
