FBI Searching Lake for Missing Girl Whose Mom, Stepdad Were Arrested for 'Failing to Report Disappearance'

FBI Searching Lake for Missing Girl Whose Mom, Stepdad Were Arrested for 'Failing to Report Disappearance'

Although the 11-year-old was last seen November 23, her parents reported her missing to school on December 15, according to reports.

North Carolina authorities are intensifying their search for a missing 11-year-old girl, who has been missing for almost a month.

Since Madalina Cojocari disappeared, the FBI, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and Cornelius Police Department attempted to find her. This was almost a month after her last sighting.

The parties involved in investigating Madalina's disappearance announced that they were jointly "developing and following many lead" -- which included adding patrol units to nearby Lake Cornelius. "As part the normal investigative procedure, we are expanding the search area outside the home where Madalina last saw us," the departments shared. They also added, "We are conducting additional water and land searches as a precautionary step." We will do everything possible to #FindMadalina.

After Cojocari was reported missing by her parents to Bailey Middle School's school resource officer, the investigation into her disappearance began December 15. Local PD reports that the child was last seen at her home on November 23rd and has not been seen since. Shortly after the investigation began, the FBI and SBI joined it.

The girl's 37-year old mother Diana Cojocari and her 60-year old stepfather Christopher Palmiter were both arrested on December 17 for Failure to Report the Child's Disappearance to Law Enforcement. WBTV reports that both parents claim they don't know the whereabouts of their child.

Madalina, a white 11-year-old girl, weighing in at 90 pounds, is described. Last seen in jeans, pink, purple, and white Adidas shoes as well as a white tshirt and jacket.

Authorities urged residents to flood the area with "her precious face" on Monday by hanging missing FBI posters outside their homes, in every window of every business or sharing our official social media posts.

Anybody with information is requested to contact the Cornelius Police Department at 704-892-7773, or 1-800-Call FBI.
