Four Genius Tips to Regift Successfully Without anyone Being the Smarter

Giving a gift, handmade present wrapped in paper. Christmas time, vintage mood.

Sometimes, we get a gift we don't want. It might not be our style or fit with our home decor. Or maybe we don't like it. It will likely sit unoccupied for many months, if not years, no matter what the reason. It will be donated or stored in the garage, and then forgotten about.

We should try to regift the item before this chain of events happens. Regifting is an option that should be considered in addition to reduce, reuse and recycle. Regifting used to be rude or tacky in the past.

We are open to the idea that if the item is in good condition and new, it's not a problem. You can regift your holiday gifts with these tips.

1. Post-Its!

If you get a gift you don't intend to use, write the name of the gift-giver on a post-it note. This will allow you to remember who the gift-giver is if you plan on regifting it.

Before regifting, make sure you have removed any identifiable items such as the gift card or post-it notes. Re-wrapping the gift is a great idea. For their birthday, Christmas paper won't work.

2. Give it some thought

The thought that you give is the most important thing about any gift. If you aren't sure that they will like the gift, don't give it back. Match the gift to someone who will enjoy it. You should pay attention to what they like and only give the gift to someone you know will enjoy it.

It is best to not give the same gift to friends or relatives. It's best to be honest about your intentions. It's a great way of ensuring you don't get in trouble for gifting by saying, "This didn’t work for me,"

3. Upcyle the Gift

Personalization can make a gift more personal. Don't buy a wine glass or tumbler that you don't use. To make your wine glasses or tumblers more personal, you can add decals to them or do glass etching. Personalize coasters, pint glasses, mugs and picture frames with these great options.

4. Take care of what you give away

There are certain items that you cannot regift. You shouldn't gift anything that was made by the gifter or personalized before.

Donate items that you are certain will end up in someone else's regifting cupboard. You can always bring the gift you received at a white-eyed Christmas party, even if it's not something you will use.
