The Golden Globes for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, and the Best Performance in Stand Up Comedy will be presented at the ceremony of January 2024.

Two new categories will be added to the 81st Golden Globes for film and television.

The Golden Globes announcedit will add two categories to the 2024 award show. These categories will honor blockbuster movies that have dominated box office, and stand-up comedians who have received acclaim.

According to a Golden Globes Press Release, "the Golden Globe for Cinematic Achievement and Box Office Achievement" will be awarded for the most acclaimed films of the year that are also amongst the highest earners and/or most watched. These films have received global support and achieved cinematic excellence.

Eight nominees will be included in the category. Films can be nominated for the award, if they have earned $150 million in box office revenue and if $100 million of that total came from domestic box office. To be eligible, streaming movies must have "a commensurate digital viewing audience recognized by trusted industry resources".

Golden Globes voters determine nominees and winners based on excellence, according to eligibility rules.

Films eligible for awards can be considered also in their respective categories.

The award for the Best Stand-Up Comedy Performance on Television (also known as Best Television Stand-Up Comedy) "recognizes exceptional work by a comedian."

The category, which will have six nominees, "gives standups an award dedicated to their individual performances or as a part of a group/ensemble of comedians."

The performance must have a minimum of 30 minutes and be "released" on a recognized platform, including broadcast, basic or premium cable, streaming and pay-per view cable.

Helen Hoehne spoke in a press release about the new categories: "The Golden Globes have a rich tradition of celebrating and supporting the work of comics. We're delighted to honor their brilliance along with outstanding performances on film and television of the year." We are also proud to acknowledge the innovation and hard work that goes into creating a film which is both artistically and commercially exceptional.

Tim Gray, Golden Globes executive vice president, said, "The Cinematic and Box Office Achievement Award is more than just a way to recognize the highest-earning, most viewed films of the year." These films are not usually recognized by industry awards. But they should be."

The nominations for the Golden Globe Awards 81st will be announced Monday, December 11th. The 2024 ceremony is scheduled to air live on January 7, 2024.
