"No camera phones -- even in New York, it was interesting to note that there were no paparazzi."
No camera phones, no social media ... no record.
Gwyneth Paltrow believes the 1990s were a time of freedom if you are famous and young.
That's at least how she described it when she appeared with Hilary Swank Monday night on "The Late Late Show With James Corden".
Corden stated, "You both came to the nineties," bringing up the topic. "The fashion, music, and what was it like being so well-known at a time before social media... what do your memories of that time?"
It was amazing -- talk about cocaine and not being caught! Paltrow spoke with a deadpan exuberance.
She said, "Like you could just go to a bar and have fun, dance at a table, etc. -- no camera phones -- particularly in New York, which is interestingly enough, there weren't paparazzi."
"You could walk out of a bar with some rando, and nobody would notice."
Paltrow was present to promote her four-part Audible series "The Goop Pursuit", while Swank spoke about "Alaska Daily". Swank is also up for a Golden Globe nomination with tonight's ceremony airing.
