"This horrible killing decimated an entire family and left two boys without their mother. It also shocked the community."

This week, a handyman was convicted of murdering his ex-lover.

Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced the plea of 44-year-old David Bonola on Wednesday. Queens Supreme Court Justice Michael Aloise announced that he would sentence the defendant to 25-years in prison followed by five-years post-release supervision at his November 16 sentencing.

Bonola, 51, was accused of murdering Orsolya Gaal (married mother of two). He allegedly had an affair with her. The body of Orsolya Gaal was found in a duffel bag that had been left in an area in Queens Park in April.

In a statement, the DA stated that "this heinous murder devastated an entire family, left 2 boys without a mom, and horrified all of the surrounding communities." "I would like to thank my prosecutors and their tireless efforts in obtaining this plea. The defendant has pleaded guilty and will be held responsible for his crimes. We offer our deepest condolences and hope that the victim's family will be able to heal with today's plea.

According to the charges Bonola was accused of arguing with the victim at her home on April 16, when the defendant "slashed Gaal's throat" and "stabbed her more then 50 times."

Gaal's 13 year-old son, who was also her husband, was at home when the murder occurred. Her husband and eldest son were visiting colleges.

Bonola was seen later on security camera footage at a nearby house with a duffel bag belonging one of the victim’s sons. Later, the bag was found with Gaal's corpse inside. A trail of blood led back to the crime scene.

One of her kitchen knives was used as the murder weapon, and it was found in the victim's house. Bonola's jacket was found at the park.

NBC New York reported that Bonola confessed to his guilt during questioning by detectives. According to authorities, he stabbed her so violently that his clothes were covered in blood. He also sustained injuries to his hands when police believed Gaal was fighting for his life.

According to police, the couple last had a romantic interaction back in April. They claim that the lovers were "off" at time of the murder.
