According to the actress, her reconciliation with Hickerson was contingent on his continued recovery.

Hayden Panettiere gives fans an update on her relationship to Brian Hickerson.

The 33-year old "Scream VI" star spoke out about his reunion with the agent, and the changes in their relationship since his arrest in 2021.

She stated that the couple, who share a complicated and messy past together, reconnected after getting sober.

In April 2021, Hickerson spent 13 days in jail after pleading no contest to two felony counts of injuring a spouse/cohabitant/girlfriend/child's parent. Hickerson was sentenced to four-year probation and received a five year restraining order. He was required to attend 52 domestic violence classes as well as pay $500.

After his July 2020 arrest, Hickerson initially pleaded guilty to eight charges. These included battery, corporal injury and assault with a deadly weapons, as well as intimidating a witness for incidents that allegedly occurred during his relationship. After his sentencing, all remaining charges against Hickerson were dropped.

He said that the pair had been working together on a friendship -- but now Panettiere is reluctant to label it.

The Times reported that Hickerson was at her condo, where they did their latest interview. She also called him "babe" throughout the interview.

The actress spoke out to the publication and stated that their reconciliation was contingent on his continuing on the road of recovery -- but she also admitted that there were feelings.

The "Heroes'" star stated that he did not take any of it lightly when he was reunited with him. She said, "He knows that he deserved the things that happened to him."

In February 2020, he was arrested for abuse against Panettiere. The second arrest was in May 2019. He was also charged with felony domestic violence. He pleaded not guilt and the charges were dropped later in the year.

Hayden stated to PEOPLE 2022 that "none of it's OK." "But I want everyone to know that every person who has gone through something like this is on their own journey. There are no two situations exactly the same.

"I am open for people who are willing and able to seek help. He has completed his treatment. She said that she was trying to forgive and move on. He was willing to help me, I believe he did his time.

She said, "I think about all the things in my life that people have forgiven me." It is important to make amends in treatment. It can also bring you inner peace.
