Here’s Why The U.S. May Never See A Gen X President

Is the United States likely to have a President from Generation X in the future? It seems unlikely, given that the majority of top leadership positions in America are held by Baby Boomers and even members of the Silent Generation. Gen X might be too late for the party.

The "Slacker Generation", even when it comes to political leadership, is proving that its nickname is accurate. They should be able to hold high-ranking political offices, including the presidency, since Gen Xers are now in their midlife years. Spoiler alert: They don't.

Boomers ride the wave of political leadership. Boomers held the highest office in America for 28 years. This includes the period beginning with Clinton's January 1993 election and ending with Biden's January 2021 election.

All three of the four presidential candidates were born in 1946: George W. Bush and Bill Clinton. Barack Obama was born in the middle of the 1961 boom. Joe Biden made a significant impact on the generational landscape. He was 78 years old when he was inaugurated. He was also the first member from the Silent Generation elected to office. Yes, we chose to be older than our predecessors.

Gen Xers were certain to lose the 2020 election because so many voters opposed any risk. As he campaigned to win votes, Representative Eric Swalwell (42), was one of many candidates who heard this.

Swalwell stated in an interview with Business Insider that he found that voters were so wary of Trump's presidency that they looked at Biden as a veteran hand and someone who could restore sanity to government.

What is Gen X for President?

Biden has been in the White House for almost two years and there is a political revival for Generation X. The 2022 midterm elections revealed a shift in Washington's generational leadership. The House of Representatives will soon be led by Gen X.

The 2024 presidential election will be held soon after the midterm elections have concluded. Boomers and Silent Generation might have to follow Gen Xers as they seek to hold office in 2024, as the election draws closer.

It may not be possible for Trump or Biden to run again. However, there are many governors and members who want to be president.

It may also be a matter of when, not if, a Gen Xer will reach the White House. As Senator Cory Booker (53), stated, "It is inevitable that it will happen." But, the New Jersey senator made a reservation when he mentioned 40-year old Pete Buttigieg. Booker stated that "unless, of course," he would not be able to predict the election of a millennial president.
