Although it's difficult, this is an opportunity to get a clear diagnosis.
Bruce Willis' family has revealed that Bruce was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, following an earlier aphasia diagnosis.
The family spoke out about their condition in a joint statement by Emma Heming, Emma's daughters Mabel, Evelyn and Tallulah Willis.
They wrote, "As a family we wanted to take the opportunity to thank all of you for the outpouring love and compassion for Bruce in the past ten month," We are so grateful for your generosity and kindness. We are grateful for your kindness and because we know that you love Bruce as much we do, we wanted you to be updated.
They continued, "Since Bruce was diagnosed with aphasia in spring 20,22, Bruce has progressed and now we have a more precise diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (also known as FTD)." "Unfortunately, communication difficulties are only one of the symptoms of Bruce's disease. Although it's painful, this is an opportunity to get a clear diagnosis.
A longer statement was shared by The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration. It stated that FTD is a "cruel" disease with no treatment.
They said, "As Bruce's condition improves, we hope that any media attention that can be focused on shining light on this disease that requires far more awareness and research can be directed at it."
They wrote that Bruce believed in using his voice to help others and raise awareness about important topics both privately and publicly. "We are certain that Bruce would like to bring global attention and connectness with others who are suffering from this devastating disease as well as their families.
Their statement concluded with Willis saying that he "has always found joy and has helped others to do the same." It was a great feeling to see his care and support echoed back to us all. Your love for Bruce, our father and friend has been so touching. We will continue to support Bruce by showing compassion, understanding, respect, and your continued compassion.
