Did Meghan Markle, Prince Harry split the royal family? According to one expert, their decision to move to America was great for Prince William. Here are their thoughts.
Andrew Morton, Royal Biographer: Who is he?
Andrew Morton stands out among many biographers who have attempted to write about the royal family. He wrote Diana: In Her Own Words - The 1993 biography. Although he didn't have the opportunity to speak directly with Princess Diana, his friends were able to do so and provided an almost unmatched insight. He is also the author of books about Prince William and Meghan Markle.
Salon recently had the opportunity to speak with Morton about his new book Meghan, and the Unmasking of the Monarchy. He spoke about the similarities and differences between Markle and Diana. "The big difference -- the biggest difference -- was the fact that Diana and Prince Charles split up very early in their marriage and went their separate way. But with Meghan and Harry, you can't really say anything about them except that they aren't a loving couple.
You just need to get on the Way
He also discussed the future of the monarchy. Morton believes Harry and Markle's departure actually made life easier for senior royals: "I think the irony here is that Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince William saw themselves to be the leaders of the slimmed down monarchy. Harry and Meghan did them a favor in jumping ship.
He continued, saying that Harry and Markle would have been in William's way if they had decided to stay. Morton also pointed out that Prince Andrew was once second-in-line for the throne just as Harry is sixth in line. In a few generations, Harry may be far away from the throne. This may not be an enduring memory.
What About Prince Andrew?
Morton thinks Andrew's "royal life is over." He believes Andrew is best as a Balmoral land manager or an executive overseeing farm operations for the family business. His royal career is over, I believe." Gossip Cop saw many reports asking if Andrew could return to his former responsibilities. Experts agree that it is highly unlikely.
It's not surprising that Morton calls it a good thing, considering all the controversy surrounding Harry and Markle leaving for the United States. Charles and William can now build a policy without Harry.
