Jada recalled, "I promise you that divorce will not be necessary. We'll figure it out."
Jada pinkett Smith explains why she does not have a prenuptial contract with her husband Will Smith.
In a interview,Jada opened up about the decision of the couple, just days after she revealed she and Will had been separated for 7 years.
Jada began by saying, "Weddings are beautiful but they can also be romanticized."
"I felt that it was a real moment when we looked each other in our eyes and said, 'Nothing matters, we will figure it out. That's why we didn't need a Prenup.'"
Jada continued, "'Because i'm making a commitment that divorce will not be necessary and that we'll figure this out.'"
"And we made this promise to eachother without all the bridal wedding beauty. It was just sitting on that log in his mom's backyard and saying, 'Hey. She concluded, "We had to consider the possibility that we might not be together."
This revelation comes after Jada stunned the world on Wednesday by revealing that she and Will had been separated for seven long years. She told TODAY Hoda K. that they weren't together romantically when the Oscars were held... and are still not now.
"Why it broke up... That -- that's many things... We were exhausted by the time we reached 2016, and we had tried everything. Jada said, "I think we both were still kind of stuck in our fantasies of what the other person was supposed to be."
"I promised that we would never get divorced. We will get through...whatever. "I just haven't broken that promise."
She added that the couple are "still working it out," and they have "done some heavy-duty work" together. Finally, she concluded: "We've got deep love for one another and we will figure out what this looks like for us."
Jada's new memoir Deserving is available on shelves everywhere from October 17.
