Jane Fonda Claims Jennifer Lopez 'Never Apologized' For Monster-in-Law Slap Injury

The actress recalled that Lopez slapped her in 2005, leaving her with a cut across her eye and eyebrow. However, she claimed that Lopez never apologized for her injuries.

Jane Fonda opens up about filming a memorable scene in "Monster-in-Law", which Jennifer Lopez co-produced.

The actress, who appeared on Thursday's episode "The Drew Barrymore show," recalled filming the scene from the 2005 romantic comedy in Lopez which saw them repeatedly slap one another.

Fonda claims that one slap left Fonda with a cut above the eye. Even though it has been almost two decades since the film was released, Fonda claimed that J.Lo "never apologized for" the injury.

Fonda, 85, was joined by her long-time collaborator, Lily Tomlin, during Thursday's episode on "The Drew Barrymore Show." Barrymore worked on many projects over the course of her "Grace and Frankie” career. Fonda and Tomlin shared their thoughts about some of their most memorable films.

Fonda stated that Barrymore mentioned "Monster-in-Law" and Fonda responded, "The first thing that comes to my mind is that we have a scene of slapping. She slaps me, I slap her. Jennifer, as Jennifer put it -- had an enormous diamond ring. So, she slapped me once, and it cut across my eye, my eyebrow.

Fonda said, "You know, she has never apologized."

For those who need to refresh their memory, "Monster-in-Law," which follows Viola Fields ("Fonda), is about Viola's determination to end Kevin's relationship (with Charlie (Lopez) and prevent them from getting married.

Viola arrives in a white gown on Kevin (Michael Vartan's) wedding day. Charlie, wearing a white wedding gown, demands that Viola, her soon-to be mother-in-law, change her dress. Both women start slapping one another in the face, and the conversation becomes a physical fight.

Charlie is the one who threw the first punch. Viola apologizes and Viola responds that you shouldn't slap someone and then apologize.

You can see the scene in the video clip above.

Lopez had previously talked about Fonda's injury during filming, but Lopez claimed that Lopez really did apologize.

In a 2019 YouTube video, the actress shared the scene again and said it was "one of my most enjoyable scenes."

Lopez, 53, recalls that Fonda really wanted it and so did I. Then I punched her in her eye by mistake.

She continued, "We talked about how to do this over-and-over again." Jane Fonda was the first person I thought of hitting. ... She was so bold and said, "Just hit me, don’t worry about it."

"I was like, ‘No! Lopez said, "I don't want you to hurt me." Lopez said, "And she was like, "Let's just get, just do it!" ... The next thing you know, [Fonda] was really into it with one of those slaps."

Fonda was left with a blood blister after the "Hustlers'" star claimed that "the scene took on an entire life of its own."

"I remember Jane getting a blood blister at her eye's top afterward. My nail got into Jane's eye. Lopez acknowledged that she was embarrassed and offered her apology. Lopez admitted that she was "mourned" and apologized. "I'm so sorry!"

Fonda, according to the singer didn't mind the injury. Fonda was reportedly like, "It's okay!" It's fine!" Lopez added that Fonda had a purple blister above her eye. "She didn't care. She is a gangster bitch. She is just so sweet.
