Jared Fogle doesn't want to live in prison.

The ex-Subway salesman and convicted child pedophile is still fit and healthy despite his 15-year sentence for child porn possession and paying for sex in the presence of underage girls. This is revealed by a letter he wrote from Englewood Federal Correctional Institution.

The New York Post obtained the handwritten note. However, the addressee was redacted.

He begins, "Thanks for reaching out to me," "At the moment, I'm not taking on any interviews."

He quickly clarified that he isn't studying culinary arts in prison despite online suggestions. Covid protocols prohibit him from doing so.

He describes his "rigorous exercise regiment", saying he runs 4-5 m per day and is "the most fit and healthy I've ever felt."

He claims that although we don't have much control over our daily lives in prison, working out is something that I can control. He also says that he weighs 180lbs and that he doesn't eat too much junk food. He likes to snack on nuts, granola bars and protein bars.

He says, "I feel really good mentally and physically." He also reveals that he enjoys watching football, especially NFL, on weekends, reading the New York Times every day, and all types of fiction, including historical fiction.

He says that he still loves to smile and laugh, before moving on to the topic of his weight. "I am ashamed of myself for getting to where I am." I was entitled and selfish."

"I think about all those I've hurt every day, especially my family. Only I can learn from my mistakes and be a better person when I'm released in a few decades.

"I look forward to restarting my life with my family, who have supported me and stood by me. They are so wonderful.

However, he acknowledges that he cannot be paroled in federal prison because he has to complete 85 percent of his 15-year and 8-month sentences. This means that he can walk as early as 2029.

He muses, "I don't really know what I will do in the future." It is a kind of open book, I suppose.

"Prison takes so much away, but I really miss the little things like walking barefoot across a carpet, sleeping on a comfortable mattress, eating with real silverware and having access to a microwave."

He ends by quoting The Shawshank Redemption prison film: "You can either get busy with living or get busy killing" when you are sent into prison.

"I have done all I can to make this an enjoyable experience and get busy living."

Fogle was sentenced to one count each of child pornography distribution and receipt and one count traveling to engage illicit sexual conduct with minors as part of a plea bargain.

Subway sponsored him once, making his fortune worth $15m. However, he had to pay $1.4million in restitution to 14 minor victims -- $100,000 each.

The FBI was first made aware of Fogle's existence in 2007 when Rochelle HermanWalrond, a journalist and radio host, told them that Fogle had disclosed to her during a speaking tour that he was attracted by middle-school-aged girls.

Herman-Walrond claimed that she formed a friendship with federal investigators and started recording disturbing conversations about minors over the span of four years. Herman-Walrond believes that Fogle was not the primary target of the investigation, which is why prosecution took so much time.
