Jeopardy! authors are often strict about giving the right clues. They must adhere to strict editing procedures that ensure that every clue is correct and cannot have alternate answers. Jeopardy can make errors from time to time. They're human after all.

Jeopardy! A clue regarding The Beverly Hillbillies TV Show was wrongly revealed in a recent Jeopardy! The clue stated that Jed Clampett had discovered oil on an Appalachian farm. He then packed up his family and moved to Beverly Hills. But, can you spot the error in the clue?

You probably know that the Clampetts family is not from Appalachia if you are a fan. The Appalachian region extends quite far from southern New York to Mississippi, but the Clampetts came from another part of the country.

It turns out that the Clampetts came from the Ozarks region in Missouri, Arkansas and Oklahoma.

The Beverly Hillbillies Family is from the Ozarks. So why was the clue incorrectly stating that they were Appalachian? The show may have the answer.

Can We Identify the Origins of 'The Beverly Hillbillies?

The Clampetts' story starts to unfold. The narrator suggests that we take them back home to the Ozarks to see how it all began. Plus, season five episode 17 reveals that the Clampetts hail from Bug Tussle. Bugtussle, Oklahoma is a city. This means the family is from the Ozarks.

But not so fast. Season nine episode 23: Granny Clampett mentions she is from Limestone in Tennessee. This area happens to be on Tennessee's western side. The family is indeed from Appalachia if this is true.

Problem is that the Clampetts' origins are not mentioned in the pilot. The pilot mentions the Ozarks, and there are clues that the show mentions several Missouri towns. It is possible the family is from the Midwest. Paul Henning, show producer, had very specific ideas regarding where Clampetts came from.

According to the book The Beverly Hillbillies Henning stated that he felt the same way now as in the beginning of the show. It would be a mistake for viewers to be limited in their imaginations in any way. I believe millions of viewers believe the Clampetts are from their backyard. This adds to the enjoyment of watching the show.

Does it really matter if the Beverly Hillbillies came from Appalachia, or the Ozarks? clue. We're not likely to ever see a clue asking where Clampetts came from. This could mean that there are many more people calling out the writers of the quiz show.
