A family statement read: "He is irreplaceable, and his loss hurts tremendously, but his intellect, humor, and heart will live on."
Jerry Springer has passed away. He was 79.
Springer's family confirmed to TMZ the news on Thursday morning. They said that Springer died peacefully at his suburban Chicago home after a short illness and surrounded by family.
Springer hosted the controversial and extremely popular syndicated program for 27 years. From its debut in 1991 to the end of the show in 2018, Springer was the host. In some markets, the ratings of this show were so high that they beat Oprah in the 1990s. Springer also starred in the 1998 comedy, "Ringmaster," which was inspired by the series. In the same year he published an autobiography of the same title.
In 2006, he was known for his "Judge Jerry Show" radio show and podcast. He also had a folk show on Cincinnati radio and appeared in the third season of the "Dancing with the Stars". He also appeared in "The Masked Singer" last year.
Springer's career was not limited to his work as a performer. He served as mayor of Cincinnati in 1977-1978, and ran for governor of Ohio (1982).
Jene Galvin said in a press release that Jerry's ability "to connect with people" was the key to his success, whether it was in politics, broadcasting, or simply joking around with people who asked for a picture or a message on the street. His loss is devastating, but the memories of his intelligence, humor, and heart will endure.
Springer's Family asked fans to "consider following his Spirit and make a contribution or commit to a kind act to someone in need, or to a worthy advocacy group, instead of sending flowers." "As he said always, 'Take care of yourselves and each other,'" concluded the statement.
