Kimmel joked, "I hope he never receives nominated again," and he will host the Academy Awards later in the month.
Jimmy Kimmel, ahead of his Oscars hosting gig says that he hopes Matt Damon, his foe, won't be there.
Interview with People: Jimmy Kimmel Live! The host, who has had a long-running "feud", with Oscar winner, joked that he is delighted that Damon won't be there when he hosts Academy Awards for the third consecutive year later in the month.
Kimmel stated that Damon has been nominated five times for Oscars and won the award for Best Original Screenplay in 1997 for "Good Will Hunting".
Kimmel jokingly said, "I hope he never is nominated again."
Kimmel will host the 2023 Oscars, which will be broadcast live on ABC's March 12th. This is Kimmel's third appearance hosting Hollywood's most important night. Kimmel, 55, hosted the 2017 and 2018 ceremonies. Kimmel was famously responsible for "envelopegate" his first time.
You may recall that in 2017, Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway announced the Best Picture category winner, but incorrectly named "La La Land" instead of "Moonlight." This moment was one of the most memorable in Academy Awards history.
Kimmel jokingly said that Damon was to blame for the mishap.
He stated that he believed that Damon's presence was responsible for the envelope mixup, and added that Damon was right there when it all happened.
Kimmel said, "It was funny, but I was right next to Matt when it literally happened." Kimmel also recalled that "he figured it out a few seconds before me." According to his version, he figured it out before he did ..... So no matter what, neither of us knew the truth.
Kimmel spoke recently about Damon during January's celebratory Jimmy Kimmel Live! Episode in celebration of the 20th anniversary his late-night talkshow, taking cheap shots of his pal. Here's Damon laughing at his pal.
Long-time fans will recall that Kimmel was a mock feuding with Damon for many years. It all started when Kimmel accidentally apologized to Damon for bumping him off the show. This is something that he does every single night.
In 2013, Damon was speaking to NPR about his name. His producer laughed at him so he "just began doing it every night to amuse himself."
Kimmel stated that "repeating the same jokes every night would make people tired."
Damon reflected back on his feud with Kimmel during a 2021 appearance on Sirius XM’s "The Jess Cagle Show". He said it "changed [their] lives."
He could have said Brad Pitt. He could have said George [Clooney], but he could've said something else," he said. "But he just -- maybe he had a movie that week -- but he just spoke my name."
Damon noted that Kimmel's running gag "doesn’t behave like any joke of all time."
Damon said, "He goes, ‘I say the same joke everyday... and it gets laughed at every night." He said, "It's the strangest thing."
