Jodie Sweetin is "surprised and disappointed" that her film, "The Last Word," was picked up by Great American Family. The network where she and her former Full House costar had promised to "keep traditional marriage as the core."
After Jodie sweetin criticized the Great American Family Channel over the holidays in response to comments made by Candace Cameron bure she is now resentful that her latest movie has just been released there.
Sweetin told The People that she was "surprised and disappointed" to learn that Craft Me a Romance had been sold to the network of her former Full House star after she criticized Bure for his comments made over the holiday saying that GAF "would keep traditional marriage at its core."
Bure responded to Hallmark Channel's announcement that it would be releasing its first holiday film with a gay couple as the leads for the holiday season of 2022.
Bure, like Sweetin, was a mainstay of Hallmark Channel's holiday and light romantic films. Bure, who is Chief Creative Officer of Great American Family, also appears in films for the "traditional" channel.
Bure said to The Wall Street Journal that in November 2022, "My heart wants me to tell stories with more meaning, purpose and behind them." "I knew the people behind Great American Family are Christians who love the Lord, and want to promote good family entertainment and faith programming.
Sweetin said to People that "as actors, we don't always have the control of which networks buy the projects in which we appear, nor do we participate in the sales process." "I was surprised to read in yesterday's press that the independent movie I worked on a year earlier was sold to Great American Family.
She continued: "I'm disappointed, but in keeping with my mission to support the LGBTQ+ community, any future or potential money that I make from this sale will go to LGBTQ+ organizations."
Bill Abbott, the new CEO of Hallmark Channel who took over from Bure last year and made the "traditional marriage" comment, stated that "it's definitely the year 2022 so we are aware of the trends." It's not like there's a whiteboard saying, "Yes, we will go this way" or "No, never."
Since those comments, there have been no same-sex relationships in GAF's holiday films of 2022. Sweetin has, on the other hand, been an ally to the LGTBQIA+ for many years.
She told and that she has always fought for equality. "I believe that if you are given a voice or a platform to speak from, you should be vocal and use it."
Sweetin showed her support for JoJo, calling Bure's remarks "rude and hurtful." She also shared posts on the Respect of Marriage Act and a video that featured a man who criticised those who believed Jesus "condemned homosexuality."
Sweetin and Siwa were not the only two to express their disgust at Bure's comments. Neal Bledsoe - one of the network’s most prominent male stars - jumped ship until "everyone can be represented with pride in their films."
Sweetin's Craft Me a Romance will premiere in September, as part of GAF’s Great Autumn Slate. This slate includes seven new movies. Sweetin plays a small-business owner who faces off against Brent Bailey, a fierce rival. Maxwell Caulfield, Julie Brown, and others also appear in the film.
