Joey Fatone Says He Felt 'Blindsided' When Justin Timberlake Didn't Come Back to NSYNC After 'Justified' Tour

Joey Fatone Says He Felt 'Blindsided' When Justin Timberlake Didn't Come Back to NSYNC After 'Justified' Tour

Joey Fatone was surprised by Justin Timberlake's decision to leave NYSNC and record his album 'Justified' in 2002.

*NSYNC is in a better place now, but it was a rough time after Justin Timberlake went solo.

In an interview with Yahoo Entertainment, Joey Fatone revealed that he was "blindsided" when JT left the group and explained how they came together to record their first song in 23 years.

Fatone stated that he wasn't blindsided by Timberlake's breakup, but rather, he was blindsided when announcing his solo album, Justified. This was after Timberlake had split from *NSYNC, which included Fatone, Timberlake, JC Chasez and Lance Bass.

He went on to say, "It's more like, Hey, I'm gonna do some music and then we will get back together." It was that. It wasn't him, it was the company. If it were him, I would understand. You think that it is the person when you are younger. You look at everything in the bigger picture and realize that you weren't there. It's all about business. 'OK, I get it.'"

Justified released in 2002. The group took a hiatus in 2003 before finally separating in 2004.

We thought that he would just go on tour and come back to us after [ Justified]. I was like 'OK'. When he started touring and things got going, I said, "All right, let's go to Broadway." Fatone revealed that's when she did Broadway. "I began doing Dancing with the Stars. "I started doing my own thing and hosting TV shows, and that's what led me."

"That's what's so beautiful about it. My career and life have led me to another place, and I am happy and content with that," he said.

Is there anything else that he is happy about? After the hopes that the group would reunite had started to fade, longtime fans were thrown into a frenzy by their recent reunion.

"Justin approached us with the idea, and...it only made sense for us to do it together as a band." Fatone explained that the song Better Place was written in part to promote Timberlake's forthcoming film The Trolls band together.

Many hoped that the group will perform the song during their surprise reunion last month at the MTV Video Music Awards.

We all trusted me. "With the powers that be, we couldn’t at the time," he explained. "But I pray and hope that one day we will be able perform this song for everyone."

He remains hopeful for future music, saying, "You just never know." I can say, "You know what?" It's possible -- in 2025. There are four guys that I need to speak to about this."
