John Mayer had been dating Katy Perry for just over a month when they recorded their duet "Who You love" in 2013. The couple dated off-and-on in the following years, before finally parting in 2015.
John Mayer shares his feelings about the 2013 duet he did with Katy Perry.
Mayer was asked to name his least favourite album by a virtual viewer during an appearance on the What Happens Live with Andy Cohen after show Monday.
Andy Cohen, who placed Paradise Valley on the bottom of the list, couldn't resist pointing out the fan favorite track from the album -- "Who You Love" featuring none other Perry.
It's great! Mayer said, "I'm glad we made that." The track was released in 2012, about two years before Mayer and her husband split up.
The "Gravity' singer explained the inspiration for the 1970s pop rock song, comparing it to "a prototype" of his 2021 album, Sob Rock.
"I was at a point where I asked, 'Why couldn't I create music from another era?'" "If I love a certain style of music, I'd like to create it. Like a genre. Why can't I produce music that is pretending to be from another era?" He continued. "And that was kind of like a prototype for. It was like an FM radio thing. Sobrock has a more developed sound.
Perry was also praised by him, saying that he "met the challenge" set forth in the song.
Mayer continued, "I listen that song every now and then, and think, 'I really like it.'" "I like her voice in the song. She mastered the song and her style of singing. "It was a lot of fun!"
Mayer and Perry first became linked in 2012, following Russell Brand's divorce. The couple would date off and on until 2015.
Perry has now been engaged to Orlando Bloom, and they share a 3-year-old girl, Daisy, together. Mayer, despite his "womanizer" rap, still appears to be single.
The "Free Fallin'' singer's romance with the American Idol Judge is not only reflected in this song.
Mayer told The New York Times in the past that his song "Still Feel Like Your Man" from 2017 is a reference to his separation from Perry.
Mayer said at the time, "Who else would be on my mind?." "And, by the way... it's proof that I haven't dated many people in the past five or six years. It was my one and only relationship. "Give me this, people!"
