The actor remembers "I had that DUI." It's so fresh in my memory that I only have to look at the picture of me in a handcuff on that street.

Stamos talks to People in support of his book If you would have told me about his battle with alcoholism.

"I had to get sober." Stamos, 60, said "I just drank too much." "I went low. I did not go high. "I just surrounded myself by people I shouldn't be with."

Stamos knew that his 2015 DUI was something he had to fix.

I had a DUI, and I thought 'I cannot do this.' The Full Housealum revealed, "I've got straighten up." "I was confused by the universe at that time because I wasn't a bad person but I did crappy stuff."

Stamos said that while his rehab journey "was dark at first," it "started to get better" as he made "a lot of really great friends."

Stamos continued, "I was lucky to have my sisters, but I also had Fuller House. "Luckily, I was able to have my sisters and Fuller House. After I returned home, we began Fuller House.

He added that "staying on the path" is what they do most for him, noting that his "recoveries have been pretty good".

The actor revealed that "it's difficult, but not because many people find it hard." It's not hard for me, because the memory is still fresh. All I need to do is see that picture of myself in handcuffs in that street.

"I was sitting in a curb, or something like that." Stamos shared, "It makes me sick just to think about it."
